How does it feel to be single on Valentines Day?
As you may know, Valentines is a celebration of love. Popularly, known for the celebration of couples. They go on date, giving some flowers, chocolates and gifts. Mostly, a lot of couples got engaged on the Day of Heart (Valentines). However, how does it feel to be single on Valentines Day just like myself? Well, I must say that I was single throughout my 18 years of living in the 14th of February.
First things first, I woke up this morning with a beautiful blue sky in my window. The sun was out and it was very warm, maybe this is the warmest Valentines day in Alberta for the past couple of years (knowingly that is cold winter until March). I thought to myself that I shouldn’t ruin my day and be sad because of not having a date in Valentines. Importantly, I have to go work from noon to night. First thing that I did this morning was to write a music, it’s about how love can hurt people when they expect too much and ended up like nothing happen. Of course, I wrote from my experience and personal observation. It’s good to write a music from your point of view because the lyrics will give so much impact the way you sing it. The lyrics goes like this: Love Hurts so much/ When I expect a lot things to come my way/ but not all of these becoming reality. But after I wrote the song and record it on my iPod, I didn’t feel any sadness about it. Perhaps, my mind is telling me that Valentines day doesn’t need to be in 14th of February, because you can do what you can do on Valentines day during the other day. As I went to work this morning, I greeted all my workmates with a smile on my face. I didn’t fake it, I was truly happy to greet them a Happy Valentines day. During my shift, I was just messing with my workmates for being a bitter because I just want to make fun of myself. I see a lot of guys holding their flowers and chocolates to give it for their someone special on that day. I didn’t cry because of jealousy, rather, I was happy because they it’s great to see someone showing their love on their partners with a sincere smile on their face. At the end of the day, I conclude that there’s no need to be sad on Valentines day because it’s just a day event. Just like Canada day, 4th of July, New Year and Christmas, Valentines day is a day event that held every year. There’s no reason for me to be sad, and neither having a date nor in relationship doesn’t affect my emotions. Maybe and I’m truly hoping that I will have my first Valentines with someone that I want to spend with.
As you know, Valentines day is a day of love. Love is an abstract feeling, you don’t see it but you feel it. Just like an abstract art, you got to feel the art to understand the meaning. There’s a lot of ways to interpret the abstract art; just like love, there’s a lot of ways to show love with someone. You can show love to other people, to your family, to your friends, to your workmates, to your people surrounded you. Valentines is not really just for couples, it’s for everybody and that is why it’s on calendar. Importantly, love yourself before you love others.
