Thursday 14th September- Oil paints
Today was the first day of experimenting with oil paints. We were asked to create four grounds using water-based materials to work on top of; a warm colour, a cool colour, a neutral colour, and then our own personal choice. The images we were to paint onto our grounds had to initially be in neutral tones. I chose to make my piece bigger and have it span across both the warm and cool coloured ground. I did this as I wanted a noticeable comparison of how the same neutral colours would interact differently with the two grounds.
I found it hard to paint in oil paints using brushes so after mapping out where I wanted my image to go I resorted to using my hand and index fingers to put the paint on. I also wanted to add more texture to the backgrounds so I used corrugated card to lay down a darker orange on the warm ground, and used bubble rap in a more grey toned blue on the cool ground. I like how the piece looks when you view it up close, however overall I am undecided whether I like what I have created.
