The Summer of Speed (and a Labor Day debacle to end it!)
The Summer of Speed (and a Labor Day debacle to end it!)
Running fast is terrifying. Writing about it is even more terrifying.
Especially since running is such a niche sport; even though a half a million of you have finished a marathon last year literally none of you even care about running. Hence, the USATF needs to be kept alive by a subsidy from a large shoe company. But I digress; the terrifying part of writing I mentioned above is knowing that…

Ireen Wust shocks Miho Takagi to take women’s 1,500
Heavy favorite Miho Takagi of Japan was beaten Monday by Ireen Wust in the women’s 1,500 meter speed skating, the Dutchwoman reclaiming the gold she first won at the Vancouver Olympics.
Wust’s 1 minute, 54.35 second time was 0.20 of a second faster than the Japanese silver medalist who had been completely dominant on the World Cup circuit this season. The Netherlands’ Marrit Leenstra finished third with a time of 1:55.26.
Takagi’s compatriot Nao Kodaira skated a 1:56.11 time, good enough to see her hold lead for a time before she slipped down the order to finish sixth.
Ayaka Kikuchi, skating in the penultimate pairing, finished in 16th with a 1:58.92 time.
No Name
With the recent uptick of conversation of the 2016 Olympics in Rio, there's been a few posts to come through by US Olympics about rising stars, veterans, etc...
However, there's been one specific area out of all the events that hasn't been mentioned once: men's mid-distance for track.
Outside of Nick Symmonds (maybe), there isn't much chit-chat on that area. Do you know why? Because of overwhelming the United States is very weak at the 800, 1500, 3000, and 5000 meter events. We've dominated sprinting for years, and even had our time in the light for long-distance, but there doesn't seem to be much along the lines of the crazies that float between the two spectrum's.
Why is that?
I could go into details about training, global competition, etc...
But personally, this is what I believe (understand that this is my only social tool that I talk about this topic:
I think that we're going to be continue to be lacking in the mid-distance category, I believe that we're not going to see many strong races by American's in the next year to year-in-a-half in this area. It's going to be quiet, because the stage is being set. This is how reckless I am at this dream, to believe that God is setting a platform that'll allow me into the program is absurd by so many levels. It's all I got to hold onto right now though. Recent feet problems from hiking (chigger bites) actually changed my foot placement on the track...for the better. I have more company's that are 'unknowingly' showing interest in me just for promotion, not knowing that I want to run.
I know I sound stupid, psychotic, and a bit unstable, but this is my dream and it's what I'm holding onto. Desperately. I will be in Rio in 2016, I will be on that team, and I know God will make history.

Swam the 1500meter today! Totally exhausted but still pretty happy with it for a first time. 21.25.02 was my time!
