Alyssa expelled the breath she was holding, making the steam swirl around her. She narrowed her eyes at her dirty blonde hair which hung wet and limp against her scalp. It fell in tendrils down her shoulders all the way down to her hips.

God I want to chop it off. I want to chop all of it fucking off.

Alyssa reckoned that every girl went through a phase where they wanted to cut their hair short, and that this was probably it for her. She spent a few moments wondering what it would be like if she cropped her hair, or better yet, shaved it all off. 

Go hard or go home.

It would definitely feel a shit tonne lighter than the mass that was sitting on her head right now. She met her own gaze in the mirror and clenched her teeth when (for the millionth time) she reconciled with the fact it probably wouldn't happen.

You'll never do it. You'll always find some excuse; blame mum, get your friends to talk you out of it, procrastinate and delay it...

Alyssa sighed again. She tried to look for the universe behind her eyes; the life or spark or infinite potential her hippy mum raved about. But there was nothing behind its grey-blueness. They looked murky, a muddy rain puddle that wasn't deep enough to reflect dark storm clouds or an azure blue cloudless sky. It was nothing pretty or impressive.

Sort of like myself, huh?
