Hi I'm intj, and I was wondering if you have any tips for making friends? Intj tips or introvert in general! Thanks
Hello fellow INTJ(sorry this took so long to answer, I just finished my exams)
Making friends - to me - is a difficult process as people tend to find me a bit distant and I’m not good at comforting others or expressing emotion. After asking a few extroverts the general idea I got from them was “just talk to them” which is quite unhelpful. Making friends is really about finding the right people, though I know little about the specifics. My closest friends are NTs, we share similar interests which makes them easier to converse with and it helped us develop our relationship into friendship. Not everyone is the same but it is my understanding that INTJs want to have deep discussions on topics that others may find difficult to approach. Going from an MBTI standpoint, we Ns tend to gravitate towards fellow intuitives, already reducing the population of possible friends to 26%. There are different types of INTJs, some prefer other Ts, some prefer Fs and some have little preference for one or the other. Your preferences have a large part in making friends as you have a better relationship if you enjoy each other’s company.
So overall I’d suggest finding someone that interests you, find some common ground and a way to present your interest in them. Extroverts tend to overlook the effort it takes for many introverts to stay in contact and be assertive in making plans etc but introverts will probably notice and appreciate this. I find that making friends is easier in a school environment when you are forced to interact.
I wish you the best of luck.- Admin Evie (INTJ)
