Prompt: requested by anonymous.
Roommate Seungcheol tries to not be sour when you come home with your co-worker Jeonghan every night. Finally fed up with the jealous feeling in his stomach, he finally confesses his feelings (and kisses you) after the two of you get a little too tipsy at your weekly beer night.
A/N: This is an old ask but it got so long I decided to post it as a drabble. Title from jealous by nick jonas ft tinashe.
Weekly beer night is a tradition you both have kept for almost the entirety of your three years as roommates. Seungcheol has been waiting for this for weeks, time in which he has been feeling anxious and upset more than ever. He is very aware of how he feels about you, how he's been feeling for a long time so no matter how hard he tries he can't help but feel uncomfortable every time you have come home with your co-worker Jeonghan, greeting Seungcheol simply before closing the door of your bedroom with the man following you inside. You have told him about the big project you are working on, one that could get you the promotion you've been waiting for a while. Still he wonders if that's the only thing that crosses your mind when you're spending time with your co-worker. The smiles you two share when you arrive to the apartment, the laughs he can hear through the walls make Seungcheol antsy and upset. He feels as if his chance is slipping out of his fingers, one he doesn't know he has but it always been there, a maybe. But when you once again come home with Jeonghan next to you, on beer night Seungcheol feels as if he needs to bury his feelings because they're not gonna be reciprocicated at all. He looks at you still at the door, from where you see the furniture of your shared living room moved out of the way, a big blanket you always use for the floor covering the wood and the pillows you use to hug when you are too drunk to go to your bedroom, are scattered over it.
You open your eyes, as if the realization comes to hard and Seungcheol can tell you forgot completely, that this important night for him doesn’t mean the same to you.
Jeonghan clears his throat, throwing a "Hi, Seungcheol" too awkward for a situation he doesn't understand. Seungcheol waves at your co-worker smiling softly, then looks at you. "You forgot, right?" You close your eyes and answer with a soft "yes," and Seungcheol feels his chest heavy with the answer he knew he was going to get. "I'm so sorry, Seungcheol, work has been so hectic-"
"It's okay," he says calmly, he understands. He always does. "I'm gonna put everything on place here, you guys have work to do." Seungcheol smiles, or tries to, he knows he failed miserably.
"I'll make it up to you, cheol. I promise." He hears before you take the same route you've been taking with Jeonghan for days.
He starts picking up the pillows, placing them on top of the furniture. He has always thought he can handle dissapoiment very well at this point, living with you for so long and knowing that he could never act on his feelings. He is sitting on the couch when he hears steps on the floor, Jeonghan going directly to the front door. Seungcheol is confused, specially when he sees the man winking at him before closing the door behind him.
You come out of your bedroom a few minutes later with slow steps, in your pajamas, face make-up free and hair undone. He looks at you, confusion must be on his features. “I guess I can’t let pass a weekly beer night;” you say not looking at him as you approach the coach, “I’m so sorry I forgot, this project is taking a lot more than I expected. Jeonghan is helping me a lot, I don’t want to lose this chance. But I know now that I’ve been neglecting things that are important because of this.” The way you sit on the old couch, hugging your legs as you place your chin on top of your knees makes seungcheol’s heart sink. The mention of your co-worker brings a pang to his chest that he isn’t proud of. He knows he never stood a chance anyway.
“It’s okay, I told you, I understand.”
“I know, but I am still sorry.” You finally looked at him. “can you get us the beer now?” You smile, seungcheol knows he will always forgive you for everything, even for breaking his heart.
Seungcheol knows it’s getting late, you’re now on the stage of asking for songs to make a karaoke session. Both of you are tipsy enough to keep giggling at everything, the music coming from his phone making you try to dance. Seungcheol’s isn’t amused, he knows it always gets like this, he’s missed this, you. And Seungcheol realizes one more time that it doesn’t matter if he only gets this much from you, it’s enough for him.
“Jeonghan seems like a good guy” he casually says, unable to control the words coming out of his mouth.
“He is great,” you answer quickly with a soft smile in your lips. Seungcheol feels something twisting inside him. “He’s been helping me a lot.”
“Yeah, it seems like it, he coming here every night and all.” Seungcheol knows he should shut his mouth. He is going to say something he regrets later.
“Yeah, we don’t have time to work on it at the office.” He must show something on his face because you blink at him, and it seems you’re amused by what he’s saying. “You’re okay with it right?” You take a sip of your beer, almost hiding your smile.
“Of course i am.” He knows his words are coming out too fast. “Why? Why wouldn’t I?” Amazing, now he is stuttering. In front of you of all people.
“I don’t know, you tell me. You’re the one with this frown on your face when I come home with him.” come home with him, the way you say it makes it sound so... Seungcheol doesn’t want to go that route. He knows he is now making that frown. He knows what expression you are talking about.
“What frown? What do you mean?” His bottle is heavy in his hand as he drinks, an excuse to avoid your stare, and you just giggle. And seungcheol is tipsy but he is not drunk, and you are right there with your hair undone and bare face. He might zoned out a little watching you.
“I know you. You are upset about something, spill it.”
“I’m not upset about anything” the awkward laugh he lets out fails him because you are still looking at him. It’s you now who’s frowning.
“Yes you are. Look if you’re upset because I brought a stranger to our home without telling you-”
“No! I mean, no. It’s just- it’s me, not you okay. I have been overthinking. You know how I get.”
“Yeah right.” The sarcasm in your voice is palpable. You take his phone from the coffee table, pausing the music. He is starting to feel awful because this is not the way your beer night should go, you both should be in your third karaoke song by now. “Okay when you feel like talking, you know where to find me. You don’t have to lie to me.” And then you stand up, the beer forgotten in the coffee table. Seungcheol panics, this should not be happening and Seungcheol is tipsy not drunk, he shouldn’t-
“Wait!” He yells, you stop and look at him. “Okay yes I was a little upset. But I’ll be fine! It’s fine!”
“Why? Well-“ what is he supposed to say? His brain decided that alcohol is going to fucked up with him tonight because he can’t think of an excuse.
“Why Seungcheol? Why were you upset?” In seconds you’re in front of him, your eyes on him and he can’t look away from your face and you hair looking disarranged and he swears you still have traces of lipstick. Seungcheol is tipsy not drunk and his brain has abandoned him so that’s why he does what he thought he would never be brave enough to do.
Right on the lips, in the middle of the living room’s apartment you’ve been sharing for three years.
It lasts for three seconds because Seungcheol’s brain decides it’s time to work again. “I’m sorry-“ his words get caught in his throat when he feels your hands cupping his face and your lips on his again. He is gonna wake up any moment from now on so he just close his eyes and tries to enjoy the moment before his alarm goes off. He blinks when you separate to catch your breath, a wide smile on your face.
“Took you long enough.” You say softly, okay so it’s not a dream. His head is spinning, it’s not a dream. “I-“
“I like you.” There’s not going back now. “I was jealous.” He said, finally. He feels a weigh lifted off his shoulders avoiding your gaze. “I’m so-“.
“If you say sorry one more time I’m gonna- well I’d kiss you again but I’d probably be very mad while doing it.”
“I’m s- okay okay I’ll stop! I just-“
“Could you please kiss me again and stop overthinking everything for once. I like you too. A lot. And-“
This time it’s you who’s speechless by the kiss.
