a major message of the novel is basically that these white people are actually kind of stupid and shallow and not worth caring about, which the narration helps communicate in a big way, so reading it is recommended! it is a good book that goes hard

it's a bit weird as a play because the most you get in the play version is nick's monologues which are more woe is me than anything
