Bring on the Power Couples

Dynamic Duos week! I actually found this theme quite interesting.

ROUND 1

Lea and Artem - Jazz as Bonnie and Clyde Aw come on, Lea can do so much better than this. Choreo was too toned down, although at least she got to show off her long legs. And there was a very nice lift-jump near the end. I get Julianne's point about more fiest, although I wouldn't really say fiest, more like, sinister. 8-8-8-8 T32

Michael and Emma - Foxtrot as Tarzan and Jane I actually liked this dance. It was so sweet and with the exception of a small slip in the middle, Michael's footwork was pretty clean. Still lacking frame, obviously, but much better than last week. 6-7-6-6 T25 I would have given one or two more 7s. But hey, the extra point came from Len, that says something.

Janel and Val - Contemporary as Romeo and Juliet Oh wow giving the showmance couple the famous romance couple? But Janel was actually doing some really technical stuff. I had doubts about Val's contemporary choreo after Danica's lackluster one last season, but he proved me wrong. All the actions were carried out well, except that I don't think the transitions between each movement was good enough and Janel wasn't fluid enough for my liking (yeah I'm picky because I'm mainly a ballet and contemp dancer so sue me). 10-10-10-10 T40. Good dance but overscored. Maybe can down it to 38.

Tommy and Peta - Paso Doble as Johnny and June Cash I'm not really sure why this is a particularly 'dynamic' duo. Moving on, I thought Tommy would have done similar to his argentine tango earlier this season, but this dance just wasn't as sharp. I don't know, it just didn't feel the usual Tommy. Dark hair Peta looked good. 6-7-7-6 T26 Julianne's got a favourite now eh?

**Sadie and Mark - Contemporary as Adam and Eve excuse me that deserved more scores. My only problems was that in the first half Sadie's expression wasn't really there and at one point her supporting foot was turned in. But other wise I thought it was as good as Janel's. It even connected better to their duo. 9-9-10-10 T38 either raise this to 40 or bring Janel down to 38 because both dances are on the same level

Alfonso and Witney - Cha-cha as Batman and Robin I like how this is considered a couple. Haha. Aaaaand that zip line reminds me of Apolo in Season 15. Apart from Witney slightly overdancing Alfonso in the intro, THAT DANCE WAS COOL. SHARP. PERFECT. END OF STORY. 10-9-9-10 T38 Len and Julianne...

Bethany and Derek - Salsa as Lucy and Ricky Words cannot describe my feelings for Bethany's wardrobe. Horrible. Ugh. Such a shame. Hmm...there was a pretty obvious slip up. All the movements were executed perfectly, but I felt like there wasn't enough salsa. Like yeah, I see content, but it's just like latin move here, latin move there, it doesn't feel like a full salsa dance. And the costumes mismatched the dance. 9-9-9-10 T37

So Janel and Val win immunity. On to the next stage!

ROUND 2

Alfonso vs Lea - Jive I get Lea and Artem choosing jive, but doing something you;re good at is one thing. Doing it against Alfonso knowing they he slayed the same thing in week 1 is another. Guess they forgot about that. Lea did great - definitely improved from her first jive, plus Artem was far more creative with the choreography (like Witneyyy stop reusing moves!), but Alfonso is the jive lord. Alfonso across the board.

Sadie vs Bethany - Cha-cha Bruno was right: clash of the titans. Personally, I find that Sadie had way more content and technique than Bethany and matched the energy of the music better, but her ending was a bit abrupt. Bethany had less content, danced a lot on the spot, and it felt rather slow. Plus she slipped at the end. But her movements were tad sharper then Sadie. Carrie Ann and Bruno voted Sadie, Len and Julianne went for Bethany. They should have just split the scores there and then but they gave priority to Len's vote so Bethany won. Hmph.

Tommy vs Michael - Rumba Giving rumba to these two is just plain mean. Not like they had much control, i guess? I think this one was also very close, and actually I think looking at the guys themselves both Tommy and Michael were on par, but Emma outdanced Michael more than Peta did to Tommy, so I guess that contributed to the overall difference. Tommy across the board.

So with Janel immune, Alfonso, Bethany, Sadie and Lea are called safe straight off the bat. Then finally, Michael and Tommy. You can't say you weren't expecting this fix for a long time. Michael goes home. Oh well, he's had a good run and at least he went out on a good week.
