liampayne: Wow! 3 years today Strip That Down was released! Crazy looking back at all the times I performed this song all over the world since then! Which ones were you at? Thank you for listening and all the support over the years! #3YearsOfStripThatDown

Nothing like listening to a good dance song with Liam Payne… well, now you can sing along with him for a good remix of “Midnight”.
We are sure that you are one of those more than 10 million plays that Liam Payne has accumulated in his Spotify account this month, that is why we planned an online talk with him to know more about “Midnight”, that song that we have not been able to get it out of our heads and it came as a stampede from Alesso's hand.
This song has been so successful that the ex-One Direction and the Swedish DJ have been working on a remix during the quarantine and are looking, via Instagram, for a voice that can be added to the single and it can be from whoever (you included). While that perfect talent for the new mix arrives, Liam Payne, from his home in London, told us a few more things about that song that you have not stopped listening to.
How is quarantine treating you? "I feel that the quarantine started very well, as the weeks go by it has been more and more difficult, for us (England) it has already been three months, so I have tried to keep the days with things that fill me, instead of hanging around without doing anything".
Let's talk a little about the past and future of "Midnight"... “I found out about the song through my record label, so I went to Sweden and recorded it with Alesso… it was funny because we didn't know each other, but the result was great. As for the future of the single, we are building a fan remix (Alesso posted on his Instagram the search for the perfect voice for this one) and it is very interesting to see how people have reacted to him, the videos they have posted singing it and see how creative are the fans… it is a difficult song to sing, but I know it will be a great remix”.
What did you like most about the song to want to do it? “The power that the choir has and of course, how great Alesso is, seeing so many people he has worked with, from Madonna, which is something great. One of my favorite songs is the one he has with Calvin Harris ("Under Control"). Being able to get involved with these people helps me learn a lot about production and their way of mixing has made him a great mentor to me in many ways.”
That on the creative side, but what weight does the lyrics have? "I think the song has adversity that reflects a relationship. As seen in some of the verses, it leads us to the fact that many of us have tried to overcome something, in addition to the fact that it fits very well with what we feel in these times, and that was not the intention because nobody saw this pandemic coming. And when we recorded the video in quarantine, the visual merged with the lyrics and the meaning took a completely different, but interesting path.”
One part says "time enjoyed wasted is not wasting time", how do you enjoy spending your time? “I like to spend time watching series, really. I use it to relax… I also sit down and make fun songs, I really enjoy that. I have learned a lot to produce, so it has been a great new passion. In learning new skills… so I would call it 'well spent', that's it.”
A lot of things happen during or around midnight ... are you more creative at night? "Right now I have become a 'midnight snacker'... and that has been a big problem during my quarantine. But I think I'm more creative outside of the 'correct hours', it's funny because even one of the production groups I went to was called that, After Hours, for that very reason, because you feel different at those times, the clock changes and you with it”.
What is your short definition of "Midnight"? "A happy, energetic song and it's like an escape."
In GQ we categorize it as a love dance song… should we see it like this? "Yes, I think there is a new style of dance music right now, with a much slower tempo than we are used to and that's because it is based on symphonies, and if you look closely, you will notice it on the different instruments that there is only in the choir… it is interesting how DJs have become great composers and writers in this era, they are making very big and aspirational songs”.
Let's talk about the video, was it your idea, was it spontaneous, how did you record it? "It's funny, but my cameraman came to live with me right before it all started (quarantine). It is true that people say that it does not seem recorded at home, but it was, it is just that we have good equipment. Yes it was spontaneous in the sense that we let ourselves go for the moment and I think it turned out very well. Generally when I record a video there are around 20 people and now there was not so much production, so I had a lot of freedom from not having as much crew, besides it was very fast and I liked that a lot.”
What is it like to launch singles from home? “It was difficult in the sense that I had to learn to do a couple of things that I didn't before, like my own hair and makeup (laughs). That has been challenging, and I think it is for many. It is good to go at your own pace on many things, but it is quite a challenge.”
Are you enjoying your time at home? “Yes, I am going on and off, you have to be aware that there will be bad days even if you are at home, I think that has helped me to cope with this situation. I have been very busy to tell the truth, I even launched a collection with Hugo… until now, I have released a single, recorded a video and participated in this new clothing line, it has been crazy”.
