Even though I've made dozens of dozens of unique, one-off keysets for #highend #acoustic #pianos I still feel a bit queasy when I finally reach the point in a project when I can mount parts onto the stack and see if mechanically this complex wooden #machine will actually function as I intended. In this case of the #1910mason, the #design and its execution resulted in a homerun. One of the several differences between making a new set of keys for a Mason & Hamlin piano vs. a Steinway is that initially fitting the custom designed and shaped Norwegian spruce key blank to the partially restored - in this case 107 year old - keyframe involves a great deal more careful hand carving of the existing keyframe endblocks to achieve a perfect fit. It can be a very tedious and slow process, but accuracy is absolutely critical to the success of the project. Thankfully these two arenow fit together beautifully and I can take a quick break, gather my strength, and continue to press forward. #1910Mason #finecustompianokeys #madeindetroit #playedallovertheworld
