Repost from @1920aesthetic • Happy Birthday Josephine!! Josephine was such an amazing woman. She was a great mother that loved all of her children dearly. She supported the civil rights movement and demanded that her audiences and staff were integrated or else she wouldn’t perform, she also attended Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech on Washington. She helped and saved many lives during the Nazi invasion in France and joined the resistance. She fought through many obstacles in her life, racism, fear, sickness, poverty, and heartbreak, but she made a name for herself and rose to the top as one of the highest paid performers in Europe and one of the best. We all admire her for her courage, strength, and determination. Happy Birthday Josephine we love you. A little clip of Josephine dancing the Charleston at the Follies Bergère, ca. 1926. The song is “New Charleston” by the Jazz Miami Dance Orchestra (1926). . . . . . #1920s #1920swoman #josephinebaker #charlestondance #1920sstar #folliesbergère #1920sfilm #1920sfashion #1920sstyle #flapper #vintage #1920sdancer #civilrightsactivist #blackhistory #1920aesthetic https://www.instagram.com/p/CBY8s6UB3vY/?igshid=vnvm0ktr9d1y
