She supported the civil rights movement and demanded that her audiences and staff were integrated or else she wouldn’t perform, she also attended Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech on Washington. She helped and saved many lives during the Nazi invasion in France and joined the resistance. She fought through many obstacles in her life, racism, fear, sickness, poverty, and heartbreak, but she made a name for herself and rose to the top as one of the highest paid performers in Europe and one of the best.
