Olive Tablets - which contained several herbal laxatives, and, supposedly, olive oil - were created and sold by Dr. Frank Mott Edwards of Portsmouth, Ohio beginning in 1909.

Boots Chemist’s 1939 Christmas gift ads published in the Portsmouth Evening News. I have not found any ads like these in 1940 or 1941, which may be due to rationing and general scarcity or bombing. I know other shops in the area were damaged, so that may have been the case here too.

Here are some scans from the 1935 Chicago Mail Order Company of curtains (swagger sets were “new and stylish”), bedspreads of Cretonne, double loop quality towels, 87 inch seamless unbleached sheeting, and Pepperell pre-washed quality sheets! Quite a lot of care was taken, and hardly anything in these pages cost more than a dollar.
