Lagonda is a British luxury car marque established in 1906, which has been owned by Aston Martin since 1947. The Lagonda company was founded in 1906 in the UK in Staines, Middlesex, by American-born Wilbur Gunn q former opera singer. He became a British national in 1891 and worked as a speedboat and motorcycle engineer in Staines. He named the company after the Shawnee settlement of Lagonda in modern-day Springfield, Ohio, the town of his birth Introduced at the 1933 Olympia Motor Show and powered by a Meadows six cylinder engine with magneto and coil, 12 plug head and twin SU carburettors, fed by an electric fuel pump. All with crash, gearboxes, right hand gearchange, vacuum servo brakes and dual friction shock absorbers. Rough and tough, with a top speed of 90mph and 100 not far of for the Tourer. The chassis was similar to the 3 litre, at 129 inches but fitted with a heavier rear axle. The 3 litre gearbox proved inadequate very quickly and Meadows’ own box became standard, with most of the earlier cars having the gearbox retro fitted. The M45 was an instant hit, in the Motoring Press. The Meadows engine produced around 115 bhp against around 78 bhp for the 3 litre, in maybe a slightly lighter car. with the tourer nudging the 100 mph mark, with prices£795 for the tourer, £895 for the saloon.
