“Acting is like a Halloween mask that you put on.”
Keanu Reeves as troubled teen Ron Petrie in the National Film Board of Canada/Robert Fortier short film One Step Away released on September 13th, 1985. Filmed in Montreal, Quebec, this was Keanu's very first starring role at the age of twenty after appearing in a number of Canadian television commercials for Coca-Cola, Kellogg's Corn Flakes, and a Canadian photography chain (among others). During production, Reeves confided to the director that he finally felt confident enough about himself and his talent to move to Los Angeles and try to make it big in Hollywood. The rest is history.

Lifelong hockey enthusiast Keanu Reeves laces up his skates in 1994. Keanu started playing hockey as a child in his native country of Canada where many kids learn how to skate shortly after they learn how to walk (👋"Hi! Canadian here!"). Fun Fact: Reeves had an early role in the 1986 Rob Lowe/Patrick Swayze hockey movie Youngblood (filmed in the Toronto area in 1984) playing a French-Canadian hockey player named Heaver. While his accent was amusingly dodgy (as seen below), Keanu's love for the game remains strong.
