Normally, after I get a new job, I celebrate a little with a somewhat substantial purchase. When I got my job 10 years ago, I got a nice bag; then when I got my promotion, I bought another nice bag. Why? Because everyone needs a sensible yet stylish messenger bag in which to carry one’s laptop around campus. 

But when I got this job, something made me hesitate on any big purchases. It wasn’t financial; I’m making (slightly) more money now than in the old job. But I was feeling unsettled for Reasons, and it’s taken me the last two months to shake the feeling. 

Anyway this is a long-winded and uninteresting way to say that I bought some wireless noise-cancelling headphones and I finally figured out how to have them connected to both my phone and my computer at the same time.

I’m hoping that these headphones will help me feel better about being stuck in the house for the next 3-6 weeks. 

here’s what I’ve been listening to for the last three hours: a 10-hour loop of Weightless by Marconi Union. No that is not a numerical typo.
