Hiccup Haddock: Hogwarts AU

Hiccup Haddock is a Pureblood wizard that was born on the 1st of March 1975 and started attending Hogwarts on the 1st of September 1986, being sorted into Ravenclaw house.

He has a Willow wand with a Dragon Heartstring core.

His Patronus is a Norwegian Ridgeback.

His favorite subject is Care of Magical Creatures and his least favorite is Defense Against the Dark Arts.

He was one of the Ravenclaw Prefects of his year, Ravenclaw's Seeker and eventually the Head-Boy of his year.

Despite his physical shortcomings, Hiccup does his best to succeed as a wizard. He is intelligent and is constantly creating inventions for various uses throughout his Hogwarts years, including a bola launcher, a dragon's prosthetic tail and saddle, and a riding vest. However, he is much stronger than he appears.

At first, Hiccup is obsessed with proving himself to the rest of his family by learning as much magic as possible. He often doesn't think things through and is more determined to gain the recognition of his peers than he is heedful of others' orders, often causing problems for everyone in Ravenclaw, including himself. Despite this, Hiccup shows great aptitude at being a strategist: he leads his classmates into battle, knowing how to use his friends' strengths in the battle against the Red Death. Hiccup also has very good observational skills that come in handy during his time with Toothless and during Care of Magical Creatures classes. For example, he's able to hypothesize that dragons have a natural disdain for eels when his own dragon companion is repulsed by the sight of one and uses this to successfully drive back another Norwegian Ridgeback later.

He is very protective of Astrid and during his first year, he has a crush on her. Their feelings mature as they grew up and as his story progressed. Among the other teenage witches and wizards, Hiccup first comes off as awkward, mainly because he's a poor dueller, and rather scrawny for someone in his family, prompting mockery from his peers. As he becomes more adept at duelling, however, they start paying more attention to him, and friendships start developing. Despite this, Hiccup remains shy and secretive, preferring to be alone with Toothless. He also tends to be sarcastic with a dry sense of humor that can sometimes put him at odds with the other members of Ravenclaw house. It also seems that Hiccup likes to hide his fear with said sarcasm and dry humor. Due to his shyness, he had a habit of stuttering and stammering when talking to some of the other Hogwarts students, especially Astrid, or when his father is angry at him.

Despite his many virtues and his clear capabilities as a leader, Hiccup is not without his flaws. He is rather prone to letting his insecurities cloud his judgment and affect his actions; during his first years at Hogwarts, his desperation for the acceptance of his family, and his father in particular, cause him to regularly attempt to challenge his cousin to duels, only to end up doing more harm than good due to his clumsiness. In his fifth year, his mistaken belief that Stoick still does not accept him causes him to lead his friends on a potentially dangerous treasure hunt to prove himself. His innate friendliness and tendency to give others the benefit of the doubt cause him to be a little too trusting of strangers, leaving him vulnerable to manipulation and deceit by more dishonest characters, such as Heather and Mildew, on more than one occasion.

At one point, Hiccup shows a more unlikable, hypercompetitive side to his personality as he begins to score victories over Snotlout. Since Hiccup is unaccustomed to winning anything, he handles it poorly, letting the glory go to his head to the point where he briefly becomes as arrogant and unpleasant as Snotlout. Hiccup is also prone to overconfidence in his ability as a Prefect and Headboy, which becomes a major catalyst in his final year; his total belief that he would be able to reason with Drago causes him to run away from Hogwarts to confront the dark wizard, causing Stoick and Valka, who both witnessed firsthand the true extent of Drago's psychopathy and knew he could not be reasoned with, to chase after him. This indirectly but ultimately leads to Stoick's death at the hands of Drago when he puts Toothless under the Imperius Curse to demonstrate the superiority of his philosophy over Hiccup's. In spite of all his flaws, Hiccup is never above admitting when he is wrong and will do his best to make amends with others, showing he has a great deal of humility, and learning from his mistakes.

One extremely notable character trait Hiccup possesses is a deep sense of compassion. As a child, he is seen empathizing with his father over the loss of his mother, and even crying at the thought of an injured bird being killed in order to put it out of its misery. He later spares Toothless, and in doing so, changes his families' views on dragons forever. He was extremely uncomfortable with the thought of having to kill a dragon after graduating. Hiccup carries this quality throughout his Hogwarts years. He shows great sympathy to Snotlout at the end of a Quidditch match, giving up his own glory and fame for the sake of his cousin, though Snotlout showed no gratitude at all. He will almost never allow Toothless to use his full power against foes to prevent killing them. At one point, he begs Toothless to spare a Swedish Short-Snout that had nearly killed both of them just moments earlier. The peak of Hiccup's sympathy is displayed in his releasing Mildew from Azkaban. Upon seeing the horrible condition of Azkaban, Hiccup clearly displays pity for the old man. Unfortunately, Hiccup is occasionally naive in his sympathy, as Mildew betrayed him yet again right afterward. Still, his kind heartedness has resulted in many victories and accomplished the training of the deadliest dragons in the world.

The first person Hiccup would have been willing to kill was Alvin, his father's former friend. Originally, Hiccup was more interested in avoiding him, but as Alvin's plots hit closer and closer to everything and everyone Hiccup cares about, Hiccup seems to harden in a difficult resolution. He ordered Toothless to kill Alvin when he was threatening to toss Astrid off of a cliff. In the end of his sixth year, Hiccup and Toothless even charged Alvin in an attempt to kill him after he had captured, threatened, and deeply insulted both of them.

Overall, Hiccup is an intelligent, kind, and likable person who is naturally big-hearted and innocent. After starting to work at the Dragon Reserve where his mother worked, he and Toothless have become "adrenaline junkies", performing tricks like free-falling. He has also gone from being a shy boy to a confident young man, and "the greatest Dragon Master this world has ever seen" (as Astrid describes him to Drago Bludvist). He has a charitable and kind nature which allows him to see the good in everyone. He has especially been shown to care deeply for Toothless, his parents, Stoick and Valka, Astrid, and later their children Zephyr and Nuffink.

Snotlout Jorgenson: Hogwarts AU

Snotlout Jorgenson is a Pureblood wizard that was born on the 6th of December 1974 and started attending Hogwarts on the 1st of September 1986, being sorted into Gryffindor House.

He has a Redwood wand with a Dragon Heartstring core.

His Patronus is a Chinese Fireball Dragon.

His favorite subject is Defense Against the Dark Arts and his least favorite subject is History of Magic.

He was one of the Gryffindor Beaters since his fourth year onward.

Snotlout can be arrogant, to say the least, and prone to grandiose delusions of perfection, popularity, and attractiveness. Consequentially, his determination to achieve these things causes him to have a huge problem with authority or the ability to admit responsibility for his mistakes or misdeeds, but he always has some justification or some alternate way of seeing things. He often considers himself the smartest and strongest in his group of friends and longs for approval, despite the others often behaving as though they find him annoying and immature with a colossal ego. However, his bragging is not without basis, as he is quite a good duelist and smarter than others think. His personality occasionally causes him to often be inconsiderate and exploitative towards others and he will often put the others down to make himself look better. In private, he has admitted that deep down he knows he is not the best but still wants to be thought of as such, implying his vainglorious posing is more about overcompensation. He likes to think he can handle anything, but when he can't, he is not above asking for help. He is confrontational, brutally frank, and stubborn.

As he becomes older, Snotlout is not as egocentric as he was but has become highly sarcastic toward his cousin Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III's more dangerous plans.

From the glimpses of his family, it is easy to see how Snotlout is a product of his upbringing, since his father is shown to be just as hard-headed and keen to challenge authority as he is, and places great pressure on Snotlout to meet his incredibly high standards and preserve the family reputation. Earning his father's love and approval clearly causes Snotlout a great deal of insecurity and anxiety, and in this way, he is similar to Hiccup, though it is unacknowledged, since Snotlout either keeps it to himself or is in denial about his father's clearly unfair treatment of him. The flaws in his personality can most likely be attributed to his father and his upbringing, and how much he wants to impress his father by being the best.

One of Snotlout's more outstanding traits is his adversarial relationship with Hiccup, whom he often deliberately disrespects and ridicules — though this has lessened with time. In that, he is not unlike Alvin the Treacherous, who did much the same thing to Stoick the Vast. Snotlout will regularly attempt to undermine Hiccup in front of the others by trying to appear more knowledgeable or worthy as a leader, but he often just ends up making himself look like an idiot. Snotlout has stated that he thinks of Hiccup and himself as arch-enemies and states that they are not friends, though this view is largely unfounded and not reciprocated in any way by Hiccup, who refers to Snotlout as his friend despite being regularly exasperated by his cousin's behavior. Snotlout's antagonism of Hiccup is partially a result of his dislike of authority figures, but is also implied to stem from deep jealousy of Hiccup's standing within their family and the respect he receives from others at Hogwarts despite being previously being thought of as a runt. There’s also jealousy over Hiccup’s relationship with Astrid Hofferson, on whom Snotlout has a huge crush and relentlessly flirts with, despite Astrid being repulsed by him to the point of nausea.

Snotlout also fancies himself a ladies' man and desirable to the opposite gender. This is also an extension of his egotistical personality. His first attraction is to Astrid, but he quickly focuses on any other available female, such as Heather.

By the time of graduating, he's seeking the attention of his aunt Valka by trying to be her most proactive pupil in rescuing dragons. But becomes jealous of Eret when Eret proves to be more experienced and logical, winning him Valka’s support.

Heather: Hogwarts AU

Heather is a Pureblood witch that was born on the 9th of June 1975 and started attending Hogwarts on the 1st of September 1986, being sorted into Gryffindor House.

She has a Blackthorn wand with a Dragon Heartstring core.

Her Patronus is a Swedish Shortsnout.

Her favorite subject is Care of Magical Creatures and her least favorite subject is History of Magic.

Heather is perceptive and able to think her way out of trouble. She is also willing to go to great lengths to help her own cause.

Heather often comes across as two-faced, sly and untrustworthy, and has herself a hard time putting trust in others. She is deceitful and fickle by nature, prone to being secretive and lying to people that proved to be worthy of her trust. While not easy for her, she is also willing to abuse the trust of her friends and hurt them (emotionally at least) to further whatever agenda she has, which often ended up putting her friends at risk. She could also go as far as to put innocent people she didn't know in danger, seen when she tried to deliver the Book of Dragons to the Outcasts (who would have undoubtedly tried to use trained dragons to destroy the ministry), even though she did it to save her adoptive parents. She has also shown to mislead and guilt-trip her friends for personal gains.

She seems to take pride in her abilities with deception, maybe even to the point of hubris. She gloated to Astrid Hofferson about how she was able to win the favor of her male friends and her own dragon, Stormfly. However, she might have done it to merely keep up appearances.

After losing her adoptive family, she is less emotionally stable and often makes the wrong choices, even if is for what she personally believes to be the right reasons. This shows that the loss of her family unhinged her a little bit. She had even persuaded Astrid to lie to Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, which the witch had never done before.

Heather is also somewhat spiteful and prone to holding grudges against people, like her brother. Nevertheless, she was able to overcome it in the end, eventually showing forgiveness.

In spite of all her problematic behavior, Heather has a strong moral drive. She ends up becoming a vigilante for justice by returning stolen loot from pirates to their rightful owners. It is also demonstrated that she will go to great lengths in order to protect those she cares about, as she didn't want her friends to join her mission to keep them out of danger. While nervous around dragons at first, after her brief stay with the Haddocks, followed much later by meeting Windshear, she ended up developing an interest in them. It leads her to become determined to protect them, such as when she wanted to help Garffiljorg back to his family and take down the Dragon Hunters for good.

Heather is very observant, and thus knowledgeable. She asks Astrid if she and Hiccup are together when she notices how close they are.

She has also shown a caring and attentive side, as when she sang to Garff and calmed him, refusing to let her friends abandon him, on the grounds that she "knew what it was like to be alone".

Itachi Uchiha: Hogwarts AU

Itachi Uchiha was a Pureblood wizard that was born on the 9th of June 1975 and started attending Hogwarts on the 1st of September 1986, being sorted into Ravenclaw house.

He had a Beech wand with a Phoenix Feather Core.

His Patronus was a Weasel.

His favorite subject was Transfiguration and his least favorite subject was Herbology.

From a young age, Itachi was calm and insightful, showing noticeable maturity for his age and knowledge on how to deal with every situation. For all his accomplishments, talent, and popularity, Itachi was a rather humble man. Never arrogant about his own abilities nor underestimating others, most things he said would be unbiased and accurate. If an opponent exceeded his expectations or posed a legitimate challenge to him or his allies, Itachi would freely admit it. As a seven-year-old, his reasoning was on par with the minister. Having studied history, not just of his family or Hogwarts but of the world, he gained a broader appreciation of what was important. Learning so much enabled him to understand how events of the past came to happen and, when he applied that same understanding into the future, he became concerned for where things were going. At the same time, Itachi was still fairly naïve as a child in many real-world scenarios and as such was willing to learn from his peers on how to differentiate situations. He lived at a distance, observing individuals and ideas without getting directly involved so that he could fully understand them.

Although this approach prevented him from becoming close with many people, it enabled him to think and act without prejudice or preconceptions, instead evaluating things strictly on their own merits. During his Hogwarts years, Itachi unintentionally gained many friends and admirers for his genuine concern for others despite his passive nature. He would think about his classmates and origins of magic and its future. For this reason, he never became arrogant about his own abilities or accomplishments; to which, most views or statements he made were usually well-based, seeing the situation for what it was. From this he had no self-righteous loyalty to his family that was so common among the Uchiha; though he loved his family and wanted the best for them, he knew there were more important things than the Uchiha's personal aspirations. Itachi's dream was to become minister one day, though he kept it hidden from others. Itachi was also one of the few Hogwarts students to hold no grudge against Naruto Uzumaki, believing Naruto to be the greatest victim of the Third Wizarding War and showed him kindness whenever they met by chance.

A pacifist at heart, Itachi did not actually like duelling and would avoid it when he could. As such, he preferred to rely on harmless jinxes as a first option, ending duels with as little damage as possible. When he couldn't avoid actual combat, he would end the duel as quickly as he could, all the while holding back as much as possible. Despite this, Itachi felt his own needs were secondary to the greater good's and to that end he decided to become an auror after graduating. He trained tirelessly to improve himself as quickly as he could and subjected himself to all of the auror life's inconveniences without complaint for the simple motivation of being useful to others. His commitment borderlined recklessness, due to training privately using extremely deadly methods such as dodging curses performed by his classmates.

Being so accomplished as a wizard enabled Itachi to approach problems less violently than others would, satisfying his peace-loving nature. These two extremes of his personality came into conflict as events moved toward the Uchiha family Downfall; he did not want to harm his family and sought a peaceful resolution, but knew that the path with the least bloodshed would be the family's extermination. When the Uchiha family refused to deter from their plans, Itachi was pushed over the edge and his normally polite attitude to his relatives became more violent, criticising them openly and lashing out at them for the choices that sealed their fates and his own. Despite this, at his heart, Itachi truly hated what he had to do for sake of preserving peace, trembling with hesitation as he prepared to kill his parents and crying upon doing it. With Izumi, valuing her companionship, and aware of her feelings for him, Itachi opted to kill Izumi first while she was asleep, allowing her death to be quick and peaceful.

While at heart still a pacifist, in the wake of slaughtering his own family, Itachi displayed a wrathful and merciless side, particularly to those who wronged or attempted to the people he cared for. In revenge for Yashiro Uchiha's cowardly manipulations of his father from the shadows and helping to provoke war against the ministry while keeping free of responsibility himself, Itachi used the Cruciatus Curse after making Yashiro realise how weak he was. Itachi would later use the Unforgivables to execute the helpless hit wizard Sugaru in revenge for Sugaru poisoning Shisui. He even threatened Danzō that he would reveal all the classified information he had on the ministry to foreign ministries should the wizard renege on his promise of sparing Sasuke, despite the potential damage this could inflict to the wizard population in England.

Despite the traumas he endured from killing his own family, Itachi did not blame the ministry who gave him the mission; though he did not trust Danzō on a personal level, he knew Danzō only had the wizarding world's best interests at heart. But Itachi – partly out of the necessity of his assignment to join Akatsuki – was greatly changed after the massacre, rarely if ever showing emotion. He became more prone to displays of force and permitted certain violent habits of his partner, Kisame, under the pretence that it furthered Akatsuki's goals. After learning everything that Itachi endured, Hashirama openly considered Itachi a greater wizard than himself. Itachi could not and would not fully shake his pacifistic ways, and would run from confrontation or rein in Kisame if the likelihood of collateral damage became too high for themselves or others. In addition, Itachi would continue to show his morality at times, as he expressed disgust at Orochimaru's lack of care for human life. While Kisame would sometimes protest, he considered Itachi a good friend and would listen to his instructions. Itachi also had a decent partnership with his previous partner Jūzō, showing respect to him and after his death, placing the remains of his wand in Jūzō's hand. While warning his new partner Kisame that being comrade killers meant they are destined to an unpleasant end, he disagreed with the former's premature determination that they are both terrible people, believing that humans only recognise what they truly are at the end of their lives.

The wizarding world's peace and protection was always forefront in Itachi's mind, but it was his dedication to his brother, Sasuke, that took priority in every situation. From the time of Sasuke's infancy, Itachi tasked himself with looking after him. Itachi even correctly guessed Sasuke's gender before his younger brother's birth. They'd spend whole days together in the woods around the Uchiha mansion having adventures and accomplishing self-appointed missions. When Itachi became an accomplished wizard and took much of their father's attention, Itachi would make special time to fill their father's shoes for Sasuke's benefit, at times even refusing his father's wishes in order to make Sasuke happy. In turn Sasuke wished to be just like his older brother and would often ask Itachi to teach him different spells. Itachi would almost never do so, poking his forehead and promising to teach him some other time. Unfortunately, none of these promises were ever kept.

It was Sasuke's safety that ultimately convinced Itachi to go through with killing the rest of the Uchiha, believing his own damnation was worth it if it ensured Sasuke's survival. Even though he did it for Sasuke, Itachi wanted to be punished for his crimes and selected Sasuke as the one to take vengeance against him. To push Sasuke in this direction, Itachi withheld the true reason for his actions and instead took on the persona of a man who had no love for his younger brother. Per the persona, Itachi cared about Sasuke only because of his Pureblood status. His actions in Akatsuki were meant to reinforce this persona, and whenever he met Sasuke over the years he would taunt his weakness and encourage him to get strong enough to kill him. His plan was that, once he had been killed, Sasuke would be hailed as a hero. Itachi never wanted Sasuke to learn the truth surrounding the Uchiha's massacre, and if he did he hoped the memory of a hateful older brother would cause him to not believe it. Itachi's constant pursuit of peace, coupled with the paramount secrecy of his missions and his capacity to care about those around him, led Itachi to take on every burden himself, believing he needed no help from comrades.

After he died and was temporarily reincarnated with the Ressurection Stone, Itachi discovered that his plans largely failed; Sasuke is not a hero, he did find out the truth about what Itachi did, and now he aimed to destroy the ministry for its role in Itachi and the Uchiha family's suffering. He then began to see the flaw in his original plans: he had been trying to manipulate Sasuke rather than be honest with him and trust in his own strength. Acknowledging the mistakes, Itachi was free to be himself instead of the persona he fabricated, being openly kind to others and displaying a dry sense of humour even in stressful situations. He put his trust in Naruto Uzumaki to stop Sasuke from proceeding further down the path of darkness, and after Naruto proclaimed that he will stop the war himself, warned Naruto against forgetting the value of his friends like he himself and "Madara" did, reminding him how those he loved helped him come so far. Itachi later even showed empathy to his enemy Kabuto Yakushi, likening Kabuto's arrogance and belief in nothing being beyond him to Itachi's own living self, telling him that such a path can only lead to failure, at the same time seeing finally acknowledging his true self for who he is and forgiving himself for his mistakes. Itachi further displayed a reflective side, refusing Sasuke's claims that he was perfect and telling him that perfection can never be obtained by one individual. Itachi came to believe sometimes two people of completely opposite personalities are two sides of the same coin; that when they learn to work together, they can succeed in things they are unable to accomplish alone, a possible reference to how he and Kisame were complete opposites but were capable of compensating for each other's weaknesses. He was also finally open and honest with Sasuke during their final meeting, admitting what he did and even sharing information Sasuke did not already know. He apologised to Sasuke for failing in his responsibilities as an older brother, wondering if being up front with Sasuke from the beginning might have allowed them to avoid the Uchiha's destruction. In their final moments together, Itachi told Sasuke he did not need forgiveness and that he will always love him no matter what.

Astrid Hofferson: Hogwarts AU

Astrid Hofferson is a Pureblood witch that was born on the 18th of April 1975 and started attending Hogwarts on the 1st of September 1986, being sorted into Gryffindor house.

She has a Blackthorn wand with a Dragon Heartstring Core.

Her Patronus is a Norwegian Ridgeback.

Her favorite subject is Defense Against the Dark Arts and her least favorite subject is Divination.

She was one of Gryffindor's Prefects, a Chaser on the Quidditch team from her 5th year onward and became Quidditch Captain & Head-Girl in her 7th year.

Astrid is an extremely bright, dutiful, and immensely devoted to her cause to be patriotic of the "Wizarding ways" until meeting and befriending Muggleborns when she started at Hogwarts. Competitive by nature and highly dedicated, Astrid works hard to achieve her goals. During her first years, she pushed herself to become a better witch and becomes immensely irritated with her classmates' lack of focus. After bonding closely with Hiccup, Astrid's focus shifts to becoming a skilled Quidditch player. In her last years, she is the captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch Team and her determined and strong personality makes her hard to impress.

Though Astrid exudes confidence and might, her interaction with her friends suggests - at least when she was young - that she may privately feel inadequate and under-estimated because of her gender. While describing Quidditch strategies and the skill of the Gryffindor Quidditch Team, she trips up and inadvertently applies herself into the discussion.

Astrid is emotionally driven, and as a witch, is sworn to protect those she holds dear. At one point, Astrid's innate pride and sense of duty toward her family drove her to face a dragon on her own, without any regard to herself. At one point, she also blames herself for her family's near-death in Dagur the Deranged's attack on Godric's Hallow despite being fully aware she couldn't have done anything to prevent it. Her guilt and responsibility toward her family probed her to take immediate action. Even as an adult, Astrid is willing to go rogue and defy direct orders to ensure the safety of her loved ones.

When younger, she is short-tempered and somewhat of a perfectionist at times, which is especially true before befriending Hiccup. Further exacerbated by her emotional personality, this can lead her to act impulsively and irrationally. In her first year, Astrid was solely focused on studying and becoming an auror, often isolating herself and ignoring the other Gryffindors. When Hiccup began surpassing her in class, she grew visibly upset. Fueled by jealousy and suspicion, she started to follow him discreetly, eventually leading her to interrogate him in the Forbidden Forest.

Astrid grew more even and level-headed as she matured, though she is still shown to be quite fiery under intense circumstances. She had also become more openly talkative and closer to a few of her classmates. Astrid could be prideful and dismissive of people who she thought of as lesser than her, as pointed out by Ruffnut, but she was also able to own up to her mistakes, yet again demonstrating a never-ending will to improve herself. In her sixth year, Astrid pulled a prank on the Twins as payback for April 1st, showing significant growth in her playful side.

She has also proven to be greatly reliable and becomes Hiccup's most loyal supporter. Her methods of encouragement vary but she rarely outright gives him the answer to his problems. Instead, she boosts up his confidence and stands by him as he walks through the solution at his own pace. She has often shown compassion to the rest of her peers and has especially let Heather confide in her on numerous occasions. Although her loyalties are steadfast, Astrid had to hold back information from Hiccup at Heather's request at one point. She struggled deeply with guilt over it as she had never lied to him before.

During her O.W.L.S., due to her overtiredness, Astrid suffered from uncontrollable euphoria. She became overly chipper and peppy, almost to the point of insanity, which is the opposite of the way she usually behaves.

By the time of her 7th year, Astrid has adopted an optimistic and relaxed outlook on life. Although slightly cheeky and overconfident at times, she is more emotionally secure. Her sense of adventure and exploration is also apparent, but her ongoing competitiveness and rigid approach to grave situations remain. As an adult, she is generally more spirited and playful and loves to goof around with Hiccup, Stormfly, and Toothless.

After graduating from Hogwarts, Astrid is Hiccup's sole confidant and emotional support. It is even made clear by Valka that she is the only one that can get through to Hiccup. Her relationship with him is even more secure to the point that they are both willing to marry.
