#1d cringe factor

The announcement of Zayn's new book reminded me that my ultimate cringe-inducing could-never-watch-again video is the one of Louis & Zayn smoking in Peru. I lost interest in both of them after that — not because of the smoking, but because they reminded me of teenage boys who I'd go out of my way to avoid in real life. Do you have any theories on how that video came to be leaked?

Oh my god, how could I have forgotten the ultimate cringe-fest that was Weedgate??! I literally squirmed with embarrassment the whole way through it. I watched it 2 or 3 times when it leaked, squeaking “noooooo, stop!!” throughout, but haven’t watched it again. I was never so acutely aware of their young age as when I watched that clip.

I have always been curious about how it leaked but genuinely have no idea. We know that Louis filmed it on Google glasses, so I guess his google account was hacked or something? I honestly don’t know, but it is one thing I will flick through the ‘1D tell all’ book quickly to get to!

I remembered another cringey 1D appearance that I couldn’t make it through and that is iCarly. Literally the opposite end of the spectrum lol :)

Pt 1. Absolutely nothing that 1D has done makes me cringe. They started out as 5 very young, naive, unsophisticated teens from smallish towns in England and Ireland. They had a dream that they could make it in the music business and they did. I loved watching them mature and evolve right before our very eyes. They have improved so much but I’ve loved everything they did, even the corny and silly things.

Pt 2. I know you don’t like the Gotta Be You video but were you aware of the larrie theory that Harry had to wear a big neck scarf in the video to hide hickies that Louie gave him? In 2013 larries were always looking for bruises on Harry to prove that Louis was a rough lover. Larries are the only thing connected to 1D that are cringe worthy to me. Some other rude fan behavior makes me cringe too but not the boys.

Aww, this is a lovely message, Anon! Like I said, I loved their enthusiastic, earnest naivety when I watched them on the X Factor first time round, I just can’t make myself go back to them, I don’t know why. I don’t mind the silly,, corny things - in fact I love that they were so rarely “too cool” (even Zayn!).

No, I didn’t know that about the Gotta Be You video! Or maybe I read it but it got lost in the reams of other theories about Larry giving each other hickies and bruises. Yep, needless to say, Larries make me cringe.

I suppose, now that I think of it, the fact that I watched the masterpiece that is Shadow Pico before I watched any 1D videos might have something to do with the cringe factor around Gotta Be You. I want to watch it again but I literally howl with laughter every time I see it and it’s 1am and I might scare the neighbours…..
