❝ 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂 𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈 time now, i've felt like a freak, ❞ he indulges the other in hint of honesty as sam tries to best approach this situation with some empathy, which he feels is well-deserved. he doesn't know other's lot, but the look of weariness on deacon's features is one that sam knows all too well, & he wants to try to help if & when he can. ❝ didn't fit in at school, or at home. i escaped into books, maths, sciences ; it was all a distraction from how i was really feeling. ❞ youngest winchester brother gives a slow shrug of shoulders, hesitating, as if unsure where he was going with this. ❝ it's taken me this long t'realize . . . it was never me that was the problem to begin with. it's always been them. ❞ he wonders if this could be relatable to other at all ; sam generally isn't wrong about these things, but there's always a first time for everything.

there's strange sort of stillness that nate had come to appreciate in post war era. no traffic, no honking cars, no fights or screaming in the streets. just the odd crow flying overhead or the random eyebot scurrying by. a quiet and calm where he could think, let his mind wander for moment― or at least he could if @1dentifie weren't sitting far too close, talking far too loud. god help him, when did he find himself becoming saint jude now?― “ deacon ... if you're fixing on asking me to take you to nuka-world one more time, just to get you a hat, i swear― ”

" funny, " jyn retorts, shooting him an unimpressed look that tells him exactly what she thinks of that comment. while she tries to avoid working with deacon -- his inability to just fucking spit things out pisses her off -- sometimes, it's inevitable on bigger jobs like this one ; and considering that the railroad had shelled out a decent amount of caps for her assistance here, she's willing to put up with it. . .for a limited amount of time.
