New Sherlock(ish) Convention

Heylo gang, need your attention for a scalding second! @mssmithlove1 and a ragtag team of knowledgeable nerds are making some plans and preparations for a new Sherlock convention in Minneapolis!  We’ve got a great team so far, packed with con-building experience and no shortage of enthusiasm, and are excited to dig in our various footwear to bring this thing to life!

It would primarily be a Sherlock convention, but plenty of other fandoms would be represented with panels/meetups/merch/etc. (Yuri On Ice, Check Please!, MCU, Harry Potter, whatever you all expressed interest in), and, though we can’t give specific dates yet, it’s looking like Summer 2018, because we all need to budget for 221B Con just like you!

This is obviously still a ways off, but, before we start booking things, we want to get some basic info from all of you so we can tailor-make this experience as much as possible. To that end, please take two minutes to fill out this survey, and reblog to spread the word!

Fanfic Authors!

I was talking to @mssmithlove1 the other day, and she asked me what fic(s) of mine I really liked, and I went straight to thinking about which ones were the most popular and whatnot because I’d never really thought about which one was my favorite. Which got me thinking.

I know a lot of fic writers on here, and maybe you’ve never thought about it either, or just never been asked, so, to any and all you writers out there, I’m asking! Which piece of yours is your favorite?

Today’s fic rec friday: More Things Than Are Dreamt Of by 1electricpirate. I actually listened to this story as a podfic by @consultingsmartarse (who is one of my fave podficcers) which you can find here. I highly recommend the podfic as the acting and delivery really adds to this story. This one’s a potterlock series of 3 stories, John is a wizard and Sherlock is not. It’s still set in London/221b, but this story uses elements of the HP world so well, and the description of magic in this story is delightful. I really needed something like this to read this week, and it hit the spot. I also really enjoyed the characterisation, and I actually laughed out loud on several occasions because the dialogue and characters were spot on. enjoy :>

Woo hoo! Nobody’s ever tagged me in one of these things before, so thank you @1electricpirate!! Here goes...

What was the last movie you saw? I finally saw Kingsman! Stoked for the sequel!

What was the last song you listened to? I was just in the kitchen doing dishes to a newish Corrine Bailey Rae song on the radio, which I don’t know the title to. Last song I chose to listen to: Rikki don’t Lose that Number by Steely Dan!

What was the last show you watched? I have this weird obsession with Botched on E!. Ugly boobs! Silicone injections everywhere! Crooked noses!

What was the last book you read? Does My Head look Big in This? by Randa Abdel-Fattah, for my mother-daughter book group. It’s about a high schooler in Austrailia who makes the decision to wear the hijab at school.

What was the last thing you ate? A rasberry popsicle. :) But before that I made broiled salmon steaks, garlic roasted potatoes, and bacon green beans for dinner.

If you could be anywhere else right now, where would you be? Probably on my brother’s porch in Northern Wisconsin, telling stories and drinking as the sun sets.

If you could pick a decade to travel back to in time, what would it be? For fun: 1890′s England. A time where I’d be less likely to become an indentured servant: US in the late 60s.

If you won the lotto & millions in cash, what would be the first thing you would do? Cry. Lots. Then, buy a new car to replace my ‘97 Honda, give cash to all my relatives, then travel to Austrailia, Japan, England, Ireland, and Hawaii, in that order.

Which fictional character would you like to hang out with for a day? Menolly from the Pern series by Anne McCaffrey. Or, if I was brave, Terry Pratchett’s Death.

What was the last fandom you joined? Like 1electricpirate, the last fandom I joined is the wonderful Check, Please! fandom. Lovely people with warm fuzzies and pie all around. I’m still in the Sherlock fandom but it got a little crazy there for awhile.
