Over the past few days, although he had dived into his work with relish, his thoughts had often drifted, despite himself, to the lovely Miss Atherton. He knew he couldn’t have her. And shouldn’t want her. But a man could look, could he not? And in her yellow summer frock, she looked as fresh and pretty as the daisies adorning the hat perched atop her reddish-brown curls.
