now THAT was a question. had it been any other kid dick might’ve taken the softer approach. if he didn’t know just exactly how much he hated being lied to ---- and consequently that if anyone knew his tells it was himself---- he might have been able to be purely on the defensive. say something about how they came to that decision together. that it was all peaceful, that dick handled it with maturity every time. then again, even if it was another kid that lie alone would make his nose grow so big he could use it as a battering ram. ---and who knew how much time he had with lil’ dick, so he really had to make the most of it. let him know it may not have been easy but hell, was it worth it. “ it may not sound as good, but it’s better. you’ll never lose being robin--- not what it meant to you, and not what it gave you. but the best things in life are the ones you can share. if it did us so well, just think of what it could do to others. “ and because that sounded like way too much weight to put on the shoulders of a (what? twelve year old? had his ears really been that big when he was young?) ---- dick had to lighten the mood. “ and we grew out of the shorts. for the best, by the way. “
