So, as some may know, I’ve watched the whole second season of Produce 101, so it seemed natural for me to buy the first album of Wanna One. I know they’re going to release a repackage, I won’t buy it, I’ll just review 1X1= 1 (To Be One).
So, Wanna One’s album was the first one in my CatchopCD’s command and I bought it at the price of 16.83$ (Canadian, without shipping fee). For most people, CatchopCD is the best site to order from, so I decided to give it a try, I’ll explain everything further in a review that should come out very soon about the different websites on which I purchased albums.
Nota Bene, I’m quite sure that everybody would be aware of it, but To Be One is available in two versions. I decided to purchase the Burn it Up version because 1) I hate pink albums, if I can get an album in another color who has the same content, then I immediately chose it 2) they’re so fine in suits, so I absolutely love the esthetic of the photoshoots.
The album contains 7 songs on its physical version. Among the seven tracks, there’s an intro, so let’s quickly pass over that. I have to admit that I really like Burn it Up and Energetic. Wanna Be is a song that is fine, but I feel a bit awkward hearing. For what it is of the rest of the songs… Hum… I’m not a fan of Never. I absolutely loved the original version, but I feel weird with having a new version of it and I mean, why? YMC could have, quite easily, asked E’Dawn and Hui to just produce another original song for Wanna One rather than taking a song who had quite a success and was, original, sang by other members of Produce 101. For those who think people who say such thing are just bitter, I’ll be honest. Even if all the member of the original Never team would have passed, I would style not have liked it to be made again because, for me, it only looks like a marketing move. And the last two songs are Always (also a song from the show) and Pick Me (which was unavoidable), I just feel really weird listening to them. I deleted them from my phone (Intro/Never/Always/Pick Me) and never listen to them.
For what it is of the packaging, I find it really useless. I mean, the box seems really fine, but it doesn’t close. It keeps opening whenever you put it on a shelf. I’m not a fine of the overall design of it. As said before, I’m a big fan of the Burn it Up photoshoots, but, half of the photobook is Energetic photoshoots. The boys are as gorgeous as in the Burn it Up one, but I, personally, like them less. Aside from the photobook and CD, you also obtain 4 photocards. Two are like a postcard. One is the cover of the album (either the photoshoot from Burn it Up or Energetic) and another one is a random one. As you see, I got Bae JinYoung. He isn’t my bias and I was kind of deceived, but I don’t really mind. Also, for the smaller photocards, I got the group photo and Gualin (which is among my bias, so I was so happy). Lastly, there’s a golden ticket (but who cares, I don’t even know its use) and a strap, seemingly to maintain everything together, but you can’t fit the postcard sized photocard in it… (yes, I tried).
So, is the album worth it? No, not now. This album, in my opinion, is okay, but no more. Personally, if I was to return in time, I would wait for the repackage version to see if the packaging is most interesting as well as the tracks.
