kang daniel was the older brother of your best friend
you and your best friend practically grew up together
and since you grew up with her, you were with her older brother a lot
so you two came vvv close too.
sometimes you relied on him more than you did with your best friend
he used to bully you when you were younger
daniel literally chased you and your best friend around their backyard with a gardening tool in hand
but you two gradually got closer as you grew up.
so, you two didn’t go to the same school
but you saw daniel every week
it nice to see him every once in a while, and he seemed to like your presence
you two would usually just fool around, tell jokes
and you’d even place his head on your shoulder from time to time.
you two were just comfortable with each other.
anyway, years passed and you two grew up.
you were still best friends with his sister and you still saw him every week.
one day, when you were headed over to their house, you saw an familiar face once you entered his room
it was a girl, and she was from your volleyball team.
she had fair skin, pretty eyes and she was tall. her laugh was pleasing to hear too.
your heart shattered a little bit when you saw her and daniel talking
he was definitely happy around her.
you just stuck with your best friend, finishing up your homework and talking
eventually, the girl left and daniel immediately pulled you over.
“i think i like her, Y/N” he said, smiling
the image of her wouldn’t leave his mind
yet again, your heart took another strong blow, but you just brushed it off
“.. i could talk to her for you if you want.” you suggested “she’s from my volleyball team, we’re friends.”
his eyes shined as he looked at you, “really? thanks Y/N!”
“it’s what friends are for, daniel.”
when you went home that day, you couldn’t help but compare yourself to her.
you weren’t extraordinarily pretty like her, you weren’t as smart as her, you weren’t as charming as her
your confidence was at it’s lowest, it had deflated and barely exsisted.
but you did as daniel asked,
you always told her about how great of a guy daniel was during training
it felt weird when you complimented him, since you rarely did it, but you felt like he deserved every comment you spoke.
and she eventually asked you to distance yourself from him.
they were your friends, and all you wanted was for them to be happy
so you did, and you cut off almost all contact with daniel
no more visiting his house,
no more texts
no more calls
nothing.
and she eventually started liking daniel back.
even your best friend thought they were a cute couple.
you even went to the point of telling yourself that they looked great together until you believed it.
but you always felt a painful aching in your chest whenever you saw them together
but you ignored it, and pretended it was never there.
you realized that you liked him
you liked kang daniel
your friend, who you hadn’t conversed with in a few months.
but it was all worth it, just to see him happy.
so you did what you thought was best for everyone,
you moved on, and found someone who loved you as much as you loved them
but when you got your happily ever after, the tables turned in daniel’s life
the girl he liked eventually fell out of love
and only then, he realized how much he missed you, your antics, your personality
he just realized that he loved you
but now he was in the same place as you were before,
he was in your position when he had ignored all your feelings
when he had taken you for granted
just like when you were watching him, being happy with his crush,
he was now watching you, in full bloom, in the arms of someone else
he was in the same position you were in once before,
he was in pain, watching the one he loved with someone else, and all he could do was smile like you once had
because the only thing that mattered to him
was your happiness.
