Your phone rang, blasting out Luke’s favorite song so you knew it was him. Picking it up, you almost didn’t have time to greet him when he rushed something out.

“What?”

“Okay, so you know how me and the kids were supposed to go to the pet store to get a fish?”

Not knowing where this was going, you trailed off, “Yeah…”

Luke paused for a moment. “Well, we got A Fish,” he said, emphasizing the “a”.

“Luke, what did you do?”

Defending himself, he said, “It wasn’t my fault, theoretically. The kids saw him and he was just so fluffy and cute, and you know me, I lay down the law. Hard.” You couldn’t tell if he was being serious because every time one of your kids cried, he did too. “I told them no, trust me, but they were persistent."

Groaning, you told him, “You are literally the worst at being strict. If they become spoiled brats, it’s all on you.”

“Okay, but now we have Fish and when you get home you can meet him!”

“What is ‘Fish’?”

“A dog,” he muttered sheepishly.

“Lucas Robert Hemmings. Please don’t tell me you let our kids name their dog, 'Fish’.”

“But you said you wanted a fish! And Fish is literally the fluffiest thing ever; how could I say no to that little puppy-dog look he gave me?”

Running a hand through your hair, you sighed. “Fish better be the most goddamn fluffy dog I’ve ever seen,” you rushed out before hanging up on your pushover husband.
