When last we left our villains, Dalton had cut Wapol up but good. And now we have the Isshi-20, known in most English translations as the 20 MDs, here to assist. How good of doctors can they be, though, when they aren't even wearing their masks properly?
You could argue that this chapter came out two decades before any global pandemics, but wearing a mask when you're sick has been a thing in Japan for much longer. I guess it's just a weird Oda stylization, like how toes always stick out over sandals.
And they must be great doctors after all, given they kept Wapol alive without a head. The anime censored this scene, which is dumb because it's a great gag and not at all gory or anything. Between all the tin and his devil fruit, Wapol does seem fairly cyborg-like, something we will revisit in a few arcs.
