willy wonka handled not seeing people for 15 years a lot better than we all care to admit. think about it. that whole tour, he didn't cry once. flashbacks, yeah, but he basically held his shit together for 15 straight years hidden from the outside world and he came out, conducted a tour, got rejected, and went home all without breaking down entirely.
