ログローテーションの設定を追加

先日の設定で Rails のログが syslogd 経由で保存されるようにはなったのだがローテーションされない。ローテーションの設定は別の場所でやるそうだ。Rails とは関係ないが、こちらの記事を参考にした。

ローテーションの設定は ‘/etc/newsyslog.conf’ で行う。下記のエントリを追加した。

/var/log/rails.log 644 7 100 * J

$ man newsyslog` とすると man page が参照できる。BSD 由来のコマンドのようなので、単純に newsyslog で検索すると使い方を解説したページが沢山見つかる。Google で先頭に来たページに下記の記述があった。

但し、トラフィックのログは非常に巨大になるので、いきなりこれをせずに、 最初は count を 10 位にして、平均的なログがどの位になるかを観察してから、 大体何日分を取れるかを予想します。この場合、かなり余裕を持った見積りに しておかなければなりません。何故ならば、アタックがあった時にこそ、そうした ログが必要なのですが、そうした時には非常に大量のトラフィックが予想される からです。 From: newsyslog
