2012 Toyota Camry earns 5-Star NHTSA Crash Rating
The 2012 Toyota Camry was among 3 cars to earn the NHTSA 5-star crash rating. The ratings are part of the agency’s standard for helping consumers find safer cars.
According to ratings provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released this month the Toyota Camry has earned a five-star composite score. The NHTSA composite scores are composed of five-star ratings for frontal, rollover, and a combined side pole and barrier tests. The side-pole test simulates a 20 mph side-impact crash into a 10-inch diameter pole or tree.
The redesigned 2012 Camry earned a five-star overall rating getting four stars in the frontal test, five stars in the side-crash test, and four stars in the rollover test. The 2012 Camry features a reinforced body structure that utilizes high-strength steel construction to help withstand cabin deformity during severe collisions, absorb impact energies, and help enhance occupant safety.
Only three cars, Toyota Camry, Cadillac CTS, Chevrolet Camaro, out of the 22 trucks, SUV’s, crossovers, and passenger cars tested earned a five-star rating. NHTSA said it will test 74 vehicles for the 2012 model year, including 42 passenger cars, 22 SUV’s/crossovers, 8 pickups, and 2 minivans, representing 81% of the 2012 models by sales volume.
The NHTSA directs highway safety and consumer programs and is dedicated to achieving the highest standards of excellence in motor vehicle and highway safety. The agency has set the standard for safety helping consumers find safer cars with its five-star ratings.
The fact that the Camry earned this five-star overall score after enduring the rigorous NHTSA testing is a testament to the strong design and safety focused engineering put into the Camry.
