Whelp, I sent a message to Todd Akin
I don't know if it does any good but maybe SOMEONE will read it...
Sir, I don't know if you actually read these yourself or not, but I just have to say, whatever doctors you've been talking to about the female body are very mistaken. A uterus can't distinguish between a rapist's sperm and a loving husband's sperm. We have no way to "shut that whole thing down." Our bodies do not work like that. You have degrees in engineering and divinity, neither of those come into play in the medical profession, you have no right to try to impose your opinions upon it or upon women's rights. You talk about a respect and value for human life that you believe is intrinsic to the American way, but what life are you respecting if a woman is assaulted and raped and forced to keep the child that results from it? What life are you respecting if that woman has to quit school and work until she is bone tired just to pay the medical bills of her unwanted pregnancy? What life are you respecting if every day that child has to look into its mother's eyes and see the deep seeded hate she harbors for its father? What life are you respecting if that child ends up on the street because its mother never finished school, and went into debt trying to pay the doctors who birthed it, and never spent a full day with it because she just needed to get by on her partial education in a world that demands qualifications for even the meanest of jobs with a pay rate high enough to support just a two person family? That life you are "respecting" seems like a pretty miserable one, especially when that woman could have had her abortion, finished school, established herself in a career, been financially stable, met a wonderful man and had a child who was loved and cared for by not only one but two parents. It seems to me that quality of life should outweigh quantity of life. Abortion, though unfortunate, I agree, can be necessary in certain situations, such as rape, to ensure the quality of the american lives you so value. There is no use adding miserable people to the world when we are so crowded already. It's a waste of resources and, frankly, of human life.
I keep hearing the president say he's responsible for keeping the country out of a Great Depression. No, no, no, that was President George W. Bush and Hank Paulson.
Mitt Romney • At a town hall meeting today. We're no political strategists, but we're wondering how helpful it is for a presidential candidate to make a statement now, in 2012, that's both pro-George W. Bush and pro-bailout. TARP, for instance, is currently sitting with a net -13 approval rating. Not exactly a winning issue. source (via • follow)
After reading more about the GOP candidates today, I am seriously concerned about the future of America and its people. I think I might move to Antarctica. Is there such a thing as a Penguin School?
