Binge Post
86 Eighty-Six
Episodes 1-6
Holy Shit.
Right from the first episode I had no idea why I had put this show off until now.
but also - WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT THIS SHOW?!!
I'm absolutely hooked and it's already a 10/10.
The concept is what I felt was missing from Promised Neverland but it also gives you some aspects that I like about Attack on Titan
The contrast between the two main characters lives and the disparity caused by one side is the kind of thing I want to see in a show and is definitely a good representation of the ignorance seen of the past actions of a society.
The one "royalty" that stands against the whole of society and the one that's been keeping everyone together on the other side is the perfect combo.
It addresses a lot of real issues and portrays a very real future of a "superior" group of people and using the "lesser inhumans" to fight a war for them. I think this idea is something that many shows have come close to when it's talking about racism and class disparity but this one is right on the nose for realism and what would likely happen.
I am ecstatic to watch the rest of this as it comes out, each episode up til now has been excellent and I have no doubt the rest will be the same.
This also has the potential to have multiple seasons in order to resolve the bigger issue between the two peoples. I'll be pretty disappointed if they try to wrap it up in one season, but will be on the edge of my seat regardless for each episode.
Black Bullet
13 Episodes - 1 Season
So this is a bit of an older one - 2014
Basically the world was destroyed by monsters and only a specific type of metal can hurt them but also there are cursed child weapons that work with "civil servants" that hunt monsters.
I'm honestly so lost on this one, it really just throws you right into it. There's like a series finale on episode 3 where they fight the boss that first destroyed the world, there's sacrifices and trying to overcome all these hurdles. Then there's another 10 whole episodes after that, each 100% action with some side jokes that don't really fit since we never really got attached to the characters, the main character is always on some intense vengeance hunt with some new villain, and someone is always on the verge of death. There's a new opening half way through?
It feels like they were scheduled for like 5 seasons and got cut so only kept the best action and plot sequences and crammed it into 13 episodes.
If you have 0 interest in actual plot lines and just want action with no attachments, this is it.
Nothing carries any weight because it's such a short series and you can't get attached to any of the characters in such a short period of time.
But hey - more voice lines from Milim Nava's VA (Tensura)
4/10
Dr. Stone
Episodes 24 - Season 1
...didn't realize this was a 24 episode season but here we are.
I honestly put this off for so long because I couldn't get past the style of the girls in the show but once you're watching it, you kinda forget about that.
If I had watched even just episode 1 then I'd be hooked, I love this kinda starting from scratch survival stuff. I also like how they created the "bad guy" in the show themselves but also he has a legitimate reason for his actions and it just makes sense.
Kinda reminds me of what I like about the Heaven's Dream Team show - how things are based in reality and it's lowkey teaching you lots of stuff but it's still just as entertaining.
Despite the plot that's there, I feel like this could drag out to be a long show, I'm unsure if that will be a good or bad thing, depending on how they keep up the pace and theme of the show.
For Season 1 - this show gets an 8/10
