So at the end of last year I posted a list of goals with the intention of re-visiting them at the end of the year. I wrote this several days ago but forgot to post, so it's definitely a bit late. But here’s where I ended up:
General fitness
- 250 fitness hours. Yes, I’m at 299 as of 12/29. I should hit 300 by the end of the year. =)
Running
- Run 1200 miles. No, I got irreparably off track when I got injured in September. I’m at 1023.5 on 12/29, and i should hit 1028 - 1034 by the end of the year.
- Work towards a sub 4-hour marathon. I’ve made a lot of progress with my running this year. I brought my half PR from 1:58 to 1:49, and I took my 5K PR from the mid 26s to the mid 22s. and I think I would have had a chance at sub 4 if I got to finish my training cycle this past fall. So yes, I definitely worked towards it, but I don’t feel great saying I achieved this goal. I feel like I should have known to back off before I got a stress fracture. But I guess I know now, and that’s an important lesson.
Swimming
- Swim 60 miles. Yep! I’m at 101, and this is probably where I’ll stay.
- Look into swimming with a masters team. Yes, and it has been huge for my training. I’ve gotten workout buddies not just for swimming, but for running and biking as well. I really thought this would be something I tried and quit, but I’m glad I found my team.
Personal
- Be less lazy about adulting tasks. Yes and no. There are some things I’ve gotten better at. Cleaning and getting stuff ready the night before work come to mind. I still put off scheduling appointments/making calls pretty regularly though. Maybe I’ll get over the anxiety of calling strangers some day.
- Come to terms with my cousin’s death. In general I’d say yes. I do still get upset about it at certain times or in specific situations, but I’ve become more accepting of the fact that that’s who I am, and that’s how I’m going to be sometimes.
- Be a better friend. Call far away friends at least once a month. Possibly attempt to make some new, closer friends. I’ve gotten better about getting in touch with friends, and starting conversations. I could still use some work when it comes to initiating plans with people. I’d say I’ve become friends with some people on the swim team, and a former co-worker. I also have closer work friends now, which is nice.
- Do some coding outside of work. This didn’t happen. I was on a really coding-heavy project all year and didn’t feel like doing more outside of work. excuses, I know.
