2016 Year in Review: Part 9 Sometime late in the summer, Jenn and I finalized our purchase of a home here in Pinedale, Wyoming. It is just a few doors down from where I sat a restaurant on my first trip here, the trip where I said to my buddy “I think I could live here”. 

It turns out that walking into the cirque of towers in the Winds I had inadvertently found home. I knew it then, but didn’t actually think I’d ever live with those mountains in my back yard, let alone buy a house here. 

We spent a bunch of time working in the house: painting, refinishing the oak floors, grouting tile, finishing some trim, replacing a few doors. But we still made time for fall adventures. We still got up to Yellowstone, went fishing, hiking in the fall colors. I did not get as many days sleeping outside as I had hoped for in my goals for 2016, but then I also didn’t have “buy a house” as one of my goals for 2016, so it works out okay!

2016 Year in Review: Part 8

There were a lot of trips into the mountains, this being my first summer back living in Pinedale, the idea was to get into the Winds as often as possible. Jenn and I lucked out getting similar schedules and were able to get 3 days a week off together to roam. More often than not it seems that included an adventure in these mountains. It is never enough time, of course, and we wish for longer trips and more time to explore. Still, we are blessed to call this place home.

2016 Year in Review: Part 7 And finally the snow melted and the roads cleared and we went into the mountains for the long July 4 weekend. We got into some new country in the Winds, hiked over the divide at Hailey Pass, glissaded down to go approach Mt. Hooker and spent a day wandering the East Fork Valley.  We spent more trips in the mountains in the summer of 2016, but the first one was definitely the highlight.

2016 Year in Review: Part 6

Back from Alaska, we were amazed at how much greener Wyoming had grown, and how much the snow had receded. So we started getting in a little bit further and the fish started getting hungrier. We enjoyed some awesome fishing and short hikes on warm days while waiting for the true start of backpacking season. 

It was June, and after once such trip we decided to stop at the local Brew Pub for dinner. We almost talked ourselves out of it, but I’m sure glad we didn’t. We ended up running into an old acquaintance who happened to be thinking of selling his house in Pinedale. We discussed a few things and it wasn’t long before we arranged to check it out.  Right away we knew it would be perfect for us, and we set in motion the not so fun paperwork part of seeing if we might be buying a house in Wyoming.

2016 Year in Review: Part 5

And then we went to Alaska for our 10th wedding anniversary. We wanted to go big, but could only do 10 days, so we packed in as much as we could in that time. And since we went in June, when the sun barely sets, we managed to do a lot, though I think it would never quite feel like enough in that place. From Takeetna, Denali, Landing on the Ruth Glacier, and down into Kenai Fjords and playing music in Seward, it was a great trip and we already want to go back.

10 years of adventures with Jenn have been something I can’t even begin to describe. She’s my perfect partner for our chosen life, and I can’t wait to see what we do in the next decade!
