GOODBYE, 2017.  HELLO, 2018!

Yes, that’s right, McSpirk Holiday Fest of 2017 has officially ended.  Like any challenge blog, the Fest had its challenges and successes during the year but who’s counting anything except the successes, because, hey, NEW FANFICS, FANART, AND FANMIXES.  And each one is made to enrich our McSpirk experience.

That said, thank you to all Creators.  Thank you to all prompt submitters.  Thank you to all cheerleaders and friendly word-warring companions.  Thank you to the mod staff.  This challenge blog has been running full-steam because of each of you!

The mods of @mcspirkholidayfest will soon begin preparations for kicking off the 2018 Fest.  If you joined us in years prior, wanted to join but could not, or simply wish to give our challenge a try sometime this year, we welcome any and all participation.  As always, stay tuned for upcoming announcements, potential new features, and blog updates.  And to follow up this celebration of 2017′s last round fills, we will shortly issue a round-up post of all Unfilled Prompts which found homes throughout the year as bonus fills.

Andorian Ambassador Shras has requested the help of Doctor McCoy, the finest medical mind in Starfleet. It was a simple mission really: beam down to Andor; figure out the cause of the mysterious illness killing its citizens; find a cure; return home in time for Christmas. However, something goes wrong. The deadly Andorian virus has mutated and is now able to infect humans - with Bones as its first victim. Not wanting to infect the rest of the crew, Bones only has one option. Instead of celebrating Christmas with his lovers Jim and Spock, Bones is fighting for his life in Quarantine. Can the crew save the doctor who has always saved them?

Prompt from @ladybuggete:  Modern!AU. Bones is waiting at the airport for Jo (who is coming for christmas visit).  The weather turns bad and her flight is delayed. While there he befriends Spock who is there to meet his friend who is a pilot for the airlines.  Jim is the pilot (hence Spock quotes logical statistics to Bones about the safe landing of the plane etc.) for Jo’s flight.  Once landed Jim and Spock were to travel further on to meet some friends and family for Christmas.  But with the bad weather and the late arrival of the flight it will not be possible for them to travel further.  Jo is attached to Jim because during the delays at their layover before arriving in Georgia he kept her entertained and they bonded over their shared hot chocolate.  She begs daddy to let the man who delivered her safely to him for Christmas come home with them because he has no where to celebrate since he is stranded in Georgia. Captain Jim and by extension his friend Spock end up at Bone’s home for Christmas eve/day.

McCoy is afraid to make the same mistake twice. When his father reappears in his life, he decides he would rather be haunted by a loved one than let him go again.

Prompt by @trek-tracks: After a trip to a strange planet, McCoy finds himself being literally haunted by the ghost of his father around the Enterprise. Needless to say, it’s hard to be rational when confronted with a spirit manifestation of your guilt that you also kind of hope is really your dad, so it’s up to Kirk and Spock to figure out a) what’s going on with their doctor, b) what this really is, and c) how to stop the spooky spectre.
