Happy New Year everyone! I know I’m 7 days late lol.

First off, my sis is doing well now! She has recovered from whatever illness it is she caught randomly. She unfortunately kinda just had to weather it out though... But she’s better now!

Now then on to plans!

I apologize for the the long silence between updates. While I can’t entirely promise that it will no longer be a factor, I promise I’ll try to better with updating so you guys can get more content ^^ (and so I can move the plot faster lol)

Monthly Game Dev Gauntlet Challenge!

This year I plan to attempt to do a monthly game making challenge. I will attempt to make at least one game per month of 2019. I am not an expert in this field, but I really want to get into game making. And I thought this would be sort of a fun challenge to get my gears moving, and finally make an actual finished product.

I plan on doing some more art in general just for the sake of enjoying art and making content. I will attempt to post more often even if it’s just doodles or something. I will also try to do more fan works, because I kinda miss doing fan art and stuff. I might do more, but for now I will keep to myself in case they don’t fall through ^^’

What do you want to create this year?

I love writing and creating things, and for all the weirdness going on around Tumblr in the last month especially, I love that this place has given me a community of other people who create things about the characters and stories I love. Or who enjoy reading or sharing the things others create. That’s pretty damned cool.

So I’m curious, fellow creators -- what do you want to make in 2019? I was going to ask about your goals, but that seems so formal and daunting. Let’s keep it simple. Is there something new you want to try? A work in progress you want to finish? An idea that just won’t leave you alone? Are you a writer who has not been sharing stuff (yet) but is thinking about taking the plunge? Is there something you’d like to work on in your writing (or drawing, or other medium -- I feel like this should be inclusive)?

Can we help each other out? Do you need a beta? A sounding board? A cheerleader? An accountability buddy?

I would love to hear from you, even if it’s just to say one thing you’re hoping to tackle or work on this year. Reply, reblog, send me an ask (anon or not), whatever. Let’s help each other make more stuff. (MOAR CAKE!!!)

And because I’m asking you to do this, it’s only fair that I go first, so here’s what I want to tackle this year:

Write The Solo Girls (my sequel to Epic Love) and get back on my every-two-week posting schedule.

Keep writing shorter fics on a weekly basis AND try to get into the habit of writing something every day.

Work on my endings. Sometimes I’m not really satisfied with the endings of my short fics, but I reach a point where I’m just like, “Whelp, guess it’s gonna end here” because I don’t have the time or patience to fiddle with it anymore.

Ask for help more often when I’m kicking around ideas or trying to figure something out or trying to stay motivated. I think this might help me stay on track with writing my multichapter.

Tackle some other Star Wars characters I haven’t written much before (or had mostly as background characters) in addition to my Han/Leia writing.

2019 Reading Goals

Looking back at my 2018 goals, I wouldn’t say I failed but I also didn’t feel like I succeeded. I think that was largely due to the fact that I wanted to do so much to the point of overwhelming myself. At the beginning of the year, I did so well with my reading that I began to obsess over numbers for the rest of the year. I don’t want that for 2019.

I am trying to change the way I think about my own reading and part of the way to do it, in my opinion, is changing some of my habits surrounding it. I am also trying to be kinder to myself and lessening the pressure of reading a lot for the sake of having fun numbers to boast. So, here are a few goals I have for myself!

I will set my Goodreads Reading Challenge to 25 books. Last year, I set it at 24 with the intent of slowing down my reading, which did not happen... AT ALL. I want to try again this year because I found myself struggling with picking up books for convenience rather than interest. I put it at 25 because 24 looked ugly.

I will stop “officially” tracking comics and manga as part of the reading challenge. Again this has to do with numbers. I hated looking back on my year in books and seeing a high number padded by a lot of comics/manga. I won’t stop talking about them as part of my wrap ups because I’ll still be reading them, but I don’t want to read them if my only reason is because I want to reach a certain number for my reading challenge. I genuinely enjoy graphic novels, but I pick them up now out of convenience, which is a habit I’m really trying to break.

I will read books despite how long I think it would take me to read them. I keep talking about picking up books out of convenience but what does that really mean? Well, as I already mentioned, one way I do that is by reading graphic novels. The other way is by listening to audiobooks. I found that I relied so heavily on audiobooks that I neglected to read books I was really excited about that weren’t readily available to me in audio. I knew that reading physically meant it would take longer to finish because I’m slow and easily distracted. I want to push through that and read books I want to read even if it takes me a week or longer per book. My goal is a 2:1 ratio of physical reading to audiobooks, though I hate to quantify anything because of my tendencies for numbers.

Most of the books I will read will come from my physical TBR. As of writing this post, I have ~180 books on my TBR. I wrote them all out, and I plan to use that as a checklist to read more of what I own and buy less in this new year. In the same vein, I will not have an anticipated releases post. I’ll read 2019 books as they interest me, but again, my priority is in what I already have in my personal library (and I have an actual library to go to should I want to read books I don’t already own). I’m not putting a number that I have to get to by the end of the year because that’s pressure I don’t need, but I do want to make a dent in it.

Blog-wise, I don’t really have any? Besides the one where I stop being a chicken and set up ko-fi. Otherwise, I think I’m doing pretty okay. I enjoy writing my wrap up posts monthly because it gives me a chance to reflect on books I’ve read. I am always thinking of things to post, so there’s no shortage of that. If anyone wants me to bring back any past challenges or readathons I’ve made, feel free to let me know, so I can work on them. :)

@distantheartbeats tagged me in a book thing and since I'm a sucker for LISTS! here we go. In glorious Technicolour. A shade of impossible to choose just ten books on my reading list. I currently have a bag under the table with sixteen To Be Reads in it. Excessive I know... but here some of them are, in no particular order. 1. Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes 2. Oscar and Lucinda by Peter Carey 3. Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi 4. Acceptance by Jeff Vandermeer 5. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley 6. Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado 7. Call me By Your Name by Andre Aciman 8. That Forthcoming Margaret Atwood Novel That's a Follow-up to The Handmaid's Tale 9. The Poetic Edda 10. The Pillow Book of Sei Shõnagon I don't tend to go for classics, so this year I'm trying to remedy that. I've also gone for a few ancient texts to really stretch a reading muscle that has lain dormant for too long. So there's no non-fiction or poetry on the cards on this list, but there's still some in the TBR Bag. That being said, if you, dear readers, have any recommendations, lay them on me. Now to actually get to reading instead of meticulously recording my TBR schedule. And if you want to do this, consider yourself @'ed.

Plans for the future

It’s been a few days since the year started but I figured I’d get my bearings before making any decisions for the blog. The main thing I want to focus on is doing things that I want to do. It seems like a simple concept but I have started worrying more about people who read my stories.

This next part is a bit of a peak behind the curtain of my mind. I want to stop looking so much at the numbers. whether a writer admits to it or completely denies it, we all look at how many views our work gets. And tbh, that gets depressing. So kinda connected to the “doing what I want,” thing, I’m trying to stop caring about how many notes my stories get.

Looking at my schedule for what I have planned, I’ve kinda hit a wall. For those of you up to date on the story, logically the next move should be bringing Jackie back since it was hinted at in the end of “Where are you now.” I did have a plan of writing the next part for that ark in my next story, but then I crated an alternate universe/ bubble universe for Christmas. I still want to post that story, but when I was reading it, it feels like a bunch of filler chapters. They all feel really weird.

The story itself feels like it would flow better if it was done as asks. A lot of the interactions in the story are just adjusting to the weird change. I’m still not sure about what would work better, but I’m just gonna feel it out for now I think.

Now, I have gotten a few questions about this next topic. Last summer I started the origin story for Marvin, and never finished it. I do in fact want to finish it, but I think it’s going to change a bit. And by a bit I mean a lot. Those old chapters were a bit sloppy, and it felt like there was a lot of new concepts squished into small chapters. (ignoring numbers includes ignoring the lengths of my chapters. Sorry if you don’t like long chapters)

So yes. The end of “All curtains drawn,” Is coming in 2019. We’ll see how it goes.

I know to a lot of people this is going to seem like I’m complaining/ shitting on my work, but I will admit that there is quite a bit I’m proud of. I finished my first trilogy in 2018, the static trilogy. I didn’t do anything for it, but the year anniversary of when I started posting my stories was in December. That’s kinda when I consider my start to the blog. Also, the huge incredibly fun interactive stories we’ve don’t have been so incredible! These include Solar Eclipse, Magnificent evening, and Crimson Moon. The one shots and HCs that come out of yall just hanging out with the egos have been great as well. I’m hoping that those all continue into the next year.

I could probably talk all day about what I want from next year, but really it’s nothing special. More stories, more friendships. Just having fun with the blog really. I hope everyone is excited for what’s to come. I will be posting the first chapter to my next story on Monday the 7th, and then I’ll figure out what I want to do form there. As always, my asks are open for questions and suggestions. I hope everyone has a great year, and is as excited for the future as I am.
