Usually I get a bag of Percy Pigs whenever I go on the train; last time, I didn’t and the train was heaving, it was so full I couldn’t get to my reserved seat and had to stand for over an hour, it was hot and miserable.

This time I did buy Percy Pigs, and on the way to the train I found £20 on the ground. I have a window seat. The seat next to me is empty.

The gods are appeased. Equilibrium has been restored.

Been absolute jokes today. Father drove me through flooded country roads to get to a more southern station, where I then shared a taxi (courtesy of the rail company, thanks) to go 60+ miles to Newcastle, (which was HEAVING with poor buggers trying to get North) and managed to grab a train going to London.

Taxi driver was great though. Pointing out all the parts of Newcastle where people he knew had been stabbed, robbed and beaten. Casual as a tour guide.

“Got my jaw broken down that alley there,” points to the right. Made a full recovery though.

Got to see some cute dog photos too. That’s always a plus.

I didn’t buy Percy Pigs before travelling again and…. *deep breath*

Website kept crashing when I tried to check in; got to the airport and discovered flight was overbooked, I got put on standby, then transferred to a 8:15 flight from my original one at 2:40, which is also landing at a different airport on the opposite side of the city; then that was delayed another 40 mins; all the trains in London were cancelled, so got the tube, but there’s engineering works on the line I need. Which means changing at three different stations and then getting a bus.

So instead of getting home at 4, I’m getting in after midnight.

All because. I did not buy. Percy Pigs.

Once again… made the mistake of not getting Percy Pigs before travelling and:

Managed to twist my ankle immediately upon leaving the apartment,

train to take me to the main station was delayed delayed delayed then abruptly cancelled

rushed to get the bus to the tube to the station

got there just in the nick of time, no platform announced yet so wait wait wait

No announcements, not on the departure screens until oh suddenly it is!

Got to the platform just as the train is leaving T_T

Go buy Percy Pigs, go to ticket inquiries, and suddenly the general staff consensus changes from yeah this is a you problem 🤷🏼‍♂️ idgaf to oh wait no, we maybe perhaps done goofed so here’s a free ticket for the next train (2hrs later but still)

super bummed to discover one of my Sunday morning arts was AI generated :/

#gizem akdag #and yeah #genuinely thought her work was cool and eye catching but #thought it was digital photography #rather than straight up AI #and that does fundamentally change my reaction to it

in this dream I had: overheard some people in charge of the bus route I take to work discussing (while riding the bus) how they were going to set higher fares for people who didn't wear a particular brand of tights (they also owned the tights factory) and deny service to those who refused to wear the tights and when I pointed out this was unhinged, they got real up in arms about my eavesdropping

and once the word spread this was happening, in typical modern day social media dystopia, the story became centred on my eavesdropping (rude!) and not the unhinged pricing decisions.

Maybe it's naive of me, but whenever I see portraits like this, with just a father and daughter, it restores my faith in humanity a little. Because people seem to love this idea that fathers never loved their daughters in the past and only saw them as bargaining chips for marriage or whatever, but look at the guy in the first portrait on the left, he loves that little girl! And the dad trying to do his work while his daughter bothers him with an Old Timey Barbie. The man teaching his daughter geography, his expression is so soft! The way the man in the last portrait holds the little girl's hand! And none of these are incidental, these aren't photographs, someone (probably the father) paid good money and sat down for hours so that they could have a painting of themselves and their daughter. Probably because they loved their daughter.

oh I love those! People being people is one of my favourite kinds of paintings and an important reminder that people in past times were not all that different. There were dads who loved their daughters fiercely. There were fathers who happily looked after their babies too. The German reformer Philip Melanchton for example had a cradle in his office. His wife was busy organising a household for 20 people- she was out and about, he mostly worked in his office, it made sense for him to look after their babies too babies while she dropped by at snack time.

in fact often if it was kind of safe dads had the babies in their workshops for just that reason as we can see in these paintings:

The left is “the busy father” by Theodore Weber, the right one is “At the china repairer’s “ by Wenzel Tornoe. All dads who are actively involved in childcare and a painter who thought it was a cute topic rather than anything ridiculous.

Noggin is making a name for himself; went to pick him up from his daycare, only second time he's been there btw, and a man in the building next door asked me what the name of my dog was. Upon hearing it, he immediately went "oh! that's the one with the ears."

my friend's discord server has a "proof of touch grass" channel where they post pics of them doing regular activities outdoors/in public. i think many online spaces could benefit from such a thing

when i was super depressed - like struggling to eat anything barely able to get out of bed to pee depressed - my good friend asked me every day to send her a picture of me holding a leaf and a picture of a meal i was eating and it helped me significantly

(also, she was never judgey - if my meal was a single potato chip she would simply say good job eating a potato chip today <3 )

which is to say, i agree proof of touch grass is a good idea for online spaces
