A progressive legend
If Warren doesn’t drop out after getting destroyed in her own home state then we can confirm that she doesn’t actually care about beating Trump in November or implementing progressive policies
Here is what Sanders had to say about the infamous Crime Bill:
“Let us be honest: This is not a crime prevention bill. This is a punishment bill, a retribution bill, a vengeance bill. All over the industrialized world now, countries are saying, "Let us put an end to state murder, let us stop capital punishment." But here what we're talking about is more and more capital punishment. What we're discussing now is an issue where some of our friends are saying we're not getting tough enough on the criminals. But my friends, we have the highest percentage of people in America in jail per capita of any industrialized nation on Earth. We've beaten South Africa. We've beaten the Soviet Union. What do we have to do, put half the country behind bars? Mr. Speaker, instead of talking about punishment and vengeance, let us have the courage to talk about the real issue: How do we get to the root causes of crime? How do we stop crime, which is in fact a very, very serious problem in this country?” (source)
Many centrists and Clinton Democrats like to counter by noting that Sanders eventually signed the very bill he was raging against.
Here’s Bernie explaining why:
“I have a number of serious problems with the crime bill, but one part of it that I vigorously support is the Violence Against Women Act. We urgently need the $1.8 billion in this bill to combat the epidemic of violence against women on the streets and in the homes of America.”
So here we have a story of two politicians:
Joe Biden, a modern day Dixiecrat who was so much against school desegregation that he sought the help of prominent segregationists of the time; who said he opposed busing because he was against mandatory “quotas;” who repeatedly supported George Bush and the Iraq war; who has a history of repeatedly lying about marching for Civil Rights in the 60s; who had to drop out of his first presidential run because he got caught plagiarizing other candidates; who held the door open, sat back, and allowed Republicans smear Anita Hill so that Clarence Thomas could get on the U.S. Supreme Court; who until 2019 vigorously supported the Hyde Amendment which blocks Planned Parenthood; from any & all federal funds; who enthusiastically supported mass incarceration; who helped Wall Street & big banks make student loan debt permanent; and who has a very, very long history of working with Republicans to cut Social Security and Medicare benefits and raise the retirement age ....
And on the other side, we have Bernie Sanders, who supported school desegregation and school busing; who was against George Bush’s Iraq war; who actually marched for Civil Rights in the 1960′s (and even got arrested while trying to help a black woman get student housing); who opposed mass incarceration; and who wants to strengthen Social Security, lower the retirement age, make college free, and expand Medicare into Medicare for All.
From the 60′s to today, Bernie Sanders has been progressive, transparent and extremely consistent on political and social justice issues.
But people say that it’s Bernie who isn’t a real Democrat???
It truly boggles my mind how there is even a question as to which of these two men should be president.
Please get out and vote for Bernie Sanders.
A very good comment I read on r/SandersForPresident
The country still doesn’t know what to make of a woman—in politics, and beyond—who refuses to qualify her success.
Because how dare a woman be intelligent, skilled, credentialed, and competent, and not apologize for any of those. How dare!
Y’all, I went to vote today, and the hardest part about it was holding in my cough as to not scare the shit out of everyone else was doing their civic duty
Matt Lubchansky
