they said something about writing a happy poem.
thats what 2020 needs the most - a happy poem
but the happiest poem i could write is a history
that needs to be rewritten and right now we are
putting forth new groundwork so this present moment
can someday be a happy poem. do you see?
you don’t get happy just because you asked for it
you don’t get happy just because you are alive
you make happiness, create it for others.
the first step is looking around and seeing
that perhaps right now it isn’t so happy.
so, when the time is right, i will write you the
happiest poem there is. lord knows i’m dying to.
but i can’t make something outta nothing, eh?
I wanted to know where cellphones go when they die, so I found out and never wanted a cellphone ever again. I needed it, though. If they tell you that you don’t need a cellphone in this world I consider them therapist telling you you don’t need human touch. At this point, it’s just how we’ve built it. Yes, even I admit it now, there is a part of me who needs someone. Yes, I rely on a cellphone. So, the Buddhists have a point - there is good and bad. Acceptance really is everything. I got the cellphone. Where are you?
The Job Not Taken
He was a cemetery gardener
In a small town near nowhere.
He came to work at dawn
And had time to watch the first rays of sun
Tickle sleepy headstones.
He was greeted by slender conifers
When walking by
And rhododendrons swayed in welcome
As they guarded his way
On familiar paths.
Snickering squirrels and whispering leaves
Kept him company when tending to
New and long-forgotten graves,
Planting forget-me-not and
Watering lily of the valley.
On rainy days,
He stayed inside drinking tea
And listened to corpses outside
Taking a bath.
And on sunny days,
You could hear
The chatter of his tractor
Crossing the graveyard.
If only you were a cemetery gardener
In a small town near nowhere,
You would finish work at dusk and then
Leave through long-since rusty gates,
And whisper goodnight to sleepy skeletons.
