Books read in 2025 #81 - “Kaiju Preservation Society” by John Scalzi
Everytime I read a John Scalzi novel it reminds me that I don’t read enough Scalzi. Several years ago I found my self in a post-convention bar with him and several friends where he regaled us with stories. I enjoy his social media presence and take on this dysfunctional world we live in, yet for some obscure reasons I don’t pick up his work that often.
I’m glad I did here. In his notes he called this novel as a “pop song.” And it’s a perfect way to describe a fun, light, breezy novel that still manages to hit home and you think about how we view the world (or worlds in this case) around us.
You don’t have to be a Godzilla fan or a regular watcher of kaiju movies to appreciate this entertaining tale - but if you are it sure explains a lot.
