unpopular opinion: i don't blame 2012-era dan. did he handle the situation well? no, but people need to remember that he's not a celebrity in the traditional sense. he didn't have some manager behind him guiding him on how to publicly respond, if at all. furthermore, the source of his frustration wasn't really phan, but fear for his privacy, as well as his friends' and family's, and was right to be. phan was just the cherry on top, yet the phandom blows that bit out of proportion
i think this is a lot more popular of an opinion as we move further away from 2012. time really allows you to see different perspectives on such things - i certainly agree with you now ahaha.
i can see why people blow it out of proportion though. ppl love a good thrill esp if it can be used as angst (i dont rly have a problem w/ that i am here for some thrills and angst as long as people understand and accept the difference between fiction and the complexities of real life issues)
