This is billed as post-hardcore and there certainly are PH vibes, but it’s also safe to call the ambiance and use of space as post-rock influenced, and the vocals are crisp and clear like a lot of the Midwestern emo bands of 20 years ago (long before emo meant Hot Topic, etc.). If you like the songwriting and delivery of The Hotelier, the chimey and spacious atmosphere of bands like Explosions in the Sky or This Will Destroy You, and even the driving alternative rock of bands like Balance and Composure or Basement, you will absolutely love this band and this album. They don’t suffer from the overproduction of so many recent albums in these genres, and the vinyl pressing itself is both beautifully designed and well mastered. My partner, who is a sharp judge of derivative music liked this one so much he made sure to ask “we’re definitely keeping this right?!”.
