the one where hyunwoo goes for an audition

its been 20 minutes since hyunwoo arrived at the location, he wasn’t sure if being there was the right decision or not. his palms were sweaty, his feet were cold and his heart rate was beating an an irregular speed. hyunwoo was terrified. it was an audition for a small scale musical, but just the thought of having people watch him scared him to no ends. 

‘what if i puke again--’ he thinks before stopping in his tracks, feeling his throat itching at the idea of it. 

‘why did i think this was a good idea’ he mutters quietly to himself as he paces back and forth--well, that was until he bumped into someone who was leaving the building. 

“ouch-” the two of them groaned simultaneously and looked at each other, confused. 

“hey, sorry about that, my mind’s kind of everywhere and i don’t think i can do this, why did i think i could do this, forget it-- i’m gonna leave.” hyunwoo mumbles to himself before walking away from the building. Sure, facing your fears and everything is great, but it was never a simple task, his head and his heart were telling him two different things and he couldn’t decide what would be better. 

“hey-- you okay there bud?” he feels a light tap on his shoulder and he turns, only to find the same man he bumped into earlier, his cheery look replaced with a more concerned one. 

“yeah, acting isn’t for me i guess.” hyunwoo says, looking rather down, before making his way.

“excuse me, have we met before?”

she can’t quite place it, but his face isn’t one she’d so easily forget. he’s tall with a face striking enough to be plastered across every television screen, but the lack of shrieking prepubescent girls makes her question his prospect of being a celebrity.

“i’m absolutely sure we’ve met before. you look way too familiar for this to just be a coincidence.” her index finger finds her bottom lip, tapping away mindlessly as if the vibrations will send the memory back to her brain. “maybe you–” a pause. “no, that’s not it. it’s gonna drive me crazy if i can’t figure this out.”

she stares at him with an intensity that’s only mirrored by her curiosity, eyes narrowed and filled with fascination. it only takes a few moments of studying him for the realization to click, fingers snapping in pride.

“oh, i remember! i’ve seen you naked before.” she does her best to contain her giggles but one slips through the cracks and escapes, barely audible over the gusts that tunnel through the buildings. “sorry, nothing about your naked body was laughable – i didn’t mean it like that. i just don’t know why i didn’t think of it sooner.”

an awkward silence fills the air before she clears her throat, eyes shifting as she her best to ignore her how her cheeks are flushed crimson at her own lack of tact.

“maybe i should’ve just kept my mouth shut, huh? but curiosity killed the cat and i’m not quite ready to think myself into the grave.” there’s a sudden look of panic that flashes across her face at the realization that she’s left him without an explanation, hands flying up and frenetically waving in an attempt to physically clear the air before her words do. “wait. i took an art class and you were the... model. i can’t believe i didn’t start with that – i’m such a fucking idiot. sorry. ”

the first time taeoh met im siwan, he didn’t think much of it.

it’s past hours of normalcy, obscenely late into the night, early in the morning. to taeoh, it was just another night coming home from work. another day following the same, tiring routine. he had an undying ache in his fingers, a yearning for a lit cigarette in between his lips. a deep sigh leaves him, the black haired male insistently pressing the elevator button once, then twice. “fucking useless,” he muttered out impatiently, as if expecting some sort of response. he gave the button one last press out of unadulterated irritation before the elevator doors creaked open slowly, mocking him.

if taeoh wasn’t so caught up in his own devices, he would have noticed the presence next to him, following the few steps he took into the elevator. 

he leaned against the back of the elevator after pressing his floor number, arms crossed over his chest out of habit. taeoh’s gaze settled on the other individual who occupied the elevator, the stench of alcohol greeting him first before anything else.

a dry laugh escaped him, knowing all too well of the challenge that comes with getting home drunk. he had to do that himself just the other day.

he was young, somewhere around his age, taeoh assumed. taeoh’s never seen him around, not that he ventured out of his apartment that often. he was positive he would have remembered this guy’s face if they ever crossed paths before. sharp angles, warm eyes clouded with the remnants of a night’s intoxication. he felt another craving then, one that consisted of all the stranger’s features etched upon the parchment of his favorite sketchbook.

taeoh glanced away, suddenly fixated with the tacky chipped paint of the elevator wall. feigning disinterest is his strong suit. especially when he’s been staring for too long.
