Western Digital has revealed that it expects its first 20TB hard drives to be shipped next year.

In a press release, Martin Fink, the CTO of Western Digital, confirmed that the disk contains nine disks, which means that each disk has a capacity of at least 2.22 TB.

It is also confirmed that the new 20TB discs will run on SMR (Shingled Magnetic Recording) technology instead of on helium.
