SELF-REMINDER THAT NOT EVERYTHING IS SHIT IN THIS WORLD
it was silent at first; her eyes open in the darkness, her breathing silent enough to make everyone believe she was still sleeping.
but it was early in the morning, and the alarm clock was about to start screeching. but she wasn’t ready yet.
too many things were going on. too many damn things. and on this damn day. she was supposed to be happy like she always had been, but today it was different. bothersome.
she breathed evenly hoping her eyes were not puffy; trying to gather strength to face all the people with a smile so they would not ask why was she crying on her birthday.
the thought saddened her even more.
suddenly, the sheets were yanked off her and a tidal wave of coldness and miserability crushed her.
- Up!- the responsible for the sheet-yanking screamed, enthusiastic as ever. - Up Up Up Up!
she sat up slowly. he leaned in front of her and faced her with a huge grin. - Happy Birthday, D–
- no,- she exhaled softly, too tired to hear her own name in that sentence.
his smile widened. - hell yes. 20 years. and still counting. 20 motherfucking, fine as hell, amazing years.
she shook her head slowly. everything was going to hell, and her most beloved–
- hey, this is about you, not him. you. fucking nailing another year. living on. you. here.-
she glanced over to her phone, the screen lighting up every few seconds. he glanced over as well. - They are happy. They are happy that you were born. They are happy to celebrate with you. They are happy that you exist, and that they have the pleasure to have met you.
she avoided his silver, piercing gaze. his smile was almost unnaturally big.
- i am… sad. sad. i don’t want this today–
- Because of him? because you are tired?- one of his arms surrounded her shoulders, and she smiled at the comforting warmth.
- It’s sad that the person you love the most is not placing you as a priority today,- he nodded slowly,- As, y'know, he has in the past.
she closed her eyes and thanked him.
- But today is not about how much does one person love you. It’s about how much you are worth, and you are pure motherfucking gold!
his excitement was contagious. she smiled a little.
- Listen to me,- he grabbed her nose and his silver eyes turned dark grey as he lowered his head. - Get it out of your system if you feel you need to. But don’t let this shatter the day you’ve been hoping for. Listen to me aye? Do not. You are pure fucking gold, darling. Your happiness is your own responsibility, and not anyone else’s.
it was weird to see him so serious all of sudden. she frowned, worried–
and then he showed his pearly white canines again.
gosh, his smile was so pretty.
- As is yours,- he answered- I know that you know- he poked her heart gently- exactly how much you are worth. It’s your day to show it off. Blind them with your shiny heart.
she laughed a little, - you mean our shiny heart. it wouldn’t be as bright if it wasn’t for you.
he laughed out loud, and his arms wrapped around her happily.
- let’s go. you got a shitload of people to hug.
she rolled her eyes with a smile. he carried on mocking her.
- uhhh sooo annoying how many people like me– ack!- she smacked him and laughed.
she blinked at him and her lips curved upwards.
- where would i be without you?- she looked at him, the smile now carved on her face.
- most likely, lost, naked in the middle of the woods.
she smacked him again.
lovingly, of course.
