20.6.2015 45 minutes
20.6.2015 Today as I wrote I was really tired. But I made another batch of rusks and now have for friends. Elaine and Frank were here and then Ziva and then Hanna fetched me and we drove out of Yad Kennedy where I walked 45 minutes. We did not do the full course as I was too tired but I reckon 45 minutes were enough and she brought the car to where I finished up. What is good there is that there are often large stones one can sit on. I did half an hour of phsyio but gave the pool a miss. I also managed to kick a small stone off the path in three kicks……such is progress.
I have never shown such interest in my toes. I am now waiting for the second and third to separate as a sign that there is progress.
The death yesterday of another young man is tragic and a horrible murder. But what none of the news sources tell you is that practically every spring in the West Bank and Hebron area have been taken over by settlers under the protection of the soldiers. And I one case for sure I know that the Palestinian holds valid papers for his spring and that his lands were there too because we worked with him until driven off by soldiers so that the settlers could come there. The women of the village would come down there in the summer with the children but are now no longer allowed there. Not only that but the soldiers protect settlers to enter a Palestinian owned pool and drive the local people away so that the settlers can enjoy it and there is nothing the owner can do about it. And even in cases which have been brought to court and the court has found for the Palestinians it has not helped them as the decision was never able to be implemented by them. Such is justice in Israel.
As for our Minister of Culture, Miri Regev…….. she has decided that she will be the censor of Israeli culture. She so little understands culture that she says she will give the Israeli public what it wants….bread and circuses. She obviously is so uneducated that she does not even realize what the meaning of those words are. I don’t agree with nay of the invectives that have been hurled at the religious who believe in graves of the holies or any of that sort of thing or when someone called those who go after the Likud beasts. I did not like the film being made about Yigal Amir or that about the terrorists but I do believe that those who want to see it have the right to do so. I think though that maybe the Israeli public is they did go more into details of what brings terrorists to their despicable acts also need to see the background. With Amir I think we know who directed his way of thinking.
These were some of her gems.
“I knew the cultural world is ungrateful,” she said in a recorded interview that aired Thursday evening on Channel 2, ahead of an in-depth interview that will appear in women’s magazine “At” next month. “And I don’t feel like working for ungrateful people. Tight-assed, hypocritical and ungrateful, and I don’t feel like working for them.”
She said she would have preferred to receive the Welfare portfolio in the new government as “people there know how to be grateful…’thank you Miri darling, thanks,’ even if you’re not always successful, but there is a recognition of the good (you do).”
The minister said her new position would teach her “a lesson” in working for people “who don’t like me.”
Regev said her aim of setting boundaries for art she deems legitimate would help all sides.
“That fact that I state my position in advance benefits the artists who are currently writing scripts and plays, so they know in advance what will receive funding and what won’t.”
She added that she had told the head of the actors union that, within a month, he “would know exactly what (he) can and cannot (write).”
The last to me is most frightening.
Anyhow last night no pill but I slept intermittently except for necessary moments until 8 this morning. I try not to drink at night but it is difficult especially in the summer and I wake up dehydrated. Now having spent nearly two hours cleaning up around the flat I will go to the hotel. Michal was here last night and said that I have to pay more attention to the right side of the foot which is much weaker. I was thinking of what I could use as a weight to push and took two big volumes but quickly realized that I would ruin the covers. Then I remembered that years ago …and that was truly years ago I had picked up a strange stone in one of the wadis of Jerusalem. I still remember I was with Chanah and Wilf Stein. It almost looked as if it had been used as an anchor as it had a handle with a handhold on top. I schlepped it for nearly two kilometers. Never thinking what use I would one day put it to….bad English. Never end a sentence with a preposition. But the question is now how to get it into the house as it is heavy.
