3 June 2022: King Harald and Queen Sonja paid their first visit to the island of Utøya, where 69 people were killed in a terrorist attack on the island’s Workers’ Youth League (Arbeidernes ungdomsfylking/AUF) summer camp on 22 July 2011. They were accompanied by AUF leader Astrid Hoem and Lisbeth Røyneland, head of the National Support Group for the survivors of the 22 juli attacks, both of whom shared their experiences from that day. They also met a group of 10th grade students who were on a field trip to the island.

«When one man can cause so much pain - imagine how much love we can create together.»
Ten years since our hearts were collectively ripped open. Ten years without the ones we lost, ten years with sorrow.
Please give yourself grace today.
All my love goes to survivors and family of victims, 22 July 2011. It has been 10 years, and the horror is still with us.
Nazis and neo-nazis has caused almost all pain and terror in Norway the past 100 years. Even here, people are murdered for their political beliefs by right-wing extremists. And those views did not stop just because children were shot. Just two days ago a statue comemorating a racially motivated murder was vandalised.
Together, as a species, we need to keep fighting against right-wing extremists. We are seeing fascism crop up so many places, and it scares me.

Today marks the ten year anniversary of the tragedy on utøya. Ten years since a man was so blinded by his hatred and rage that he went to an island and killed 69 people, of which most were only children. Just young people, gathered there to try to make a better world.
There are no words that can explain the sorrow we all felt 10 years ago. And even today that pain has lessened very little.
I pray that those children, those dreamers, those brave young people are happy wherever they are now. And I hope that Breivik rots in prison.
