Sixteen men carrying placards warning against buying in the black market paraded from Chambers to North Moore Streets, May 24, 1945. Food was rationed during the war and some people supplemented their coupons with illegal purchases. Edward A. Hausman, Secretary of the Allboro Retail Fruit Association, which sponsored the demonstration, said it was in protest against tie-in sales and black market practices.
