Sun had heard about this wedding for a while now, but she hadn’t been personally invited, which was fine with her. One of her friends was part of the bridal party so for weeks on end she heard about everything going on and all the planning and preparation taking place for someone else’s big day.
She didn’t mind listening and the more she heard, the more she became intrigued by the festivities and was curious as to how everything would come together. Sun had only ever been to weddings with her parents but even then, she hadn’t gone to very many.
As the big day drew closer, her friend asked her to come to the wedding too as her plus one, claiming that it was going to be a girl’s night with no boys allowed and she really wanted Sun to be there too. Sun had no reason to say no and secretly, she was glad to be invited, even if she didn’t know many people who would be attending.
And so, the big day came and for the entire day going into the night, Sun stuck close to her friend’s side, smiling and laughing along with her and enjoying a few drinks here and there but she mostly stayed quiet, not exactly eager to join in on the conversations between the girls but doing her best not to stick out too much.
At some point, one by the one, the group of girls she had been with were being taken away one by one by men who wanted to share a dance with them, eventually leaving Sun on her own.
So much for a girl’s night with no boys, she thought to herself but at the same time, she wasn’t surprised. They all looked stunning and anyone looking at them could see that they hadn’t come with any boys.
Now she felt awkward, a stranger at a wedding who was sitting alone and quietly drinking as she watched people socialize and drink and dance and Sun couldn’t help but wonder if she should leave, but a part of her reminded herself that she really had nowhere else to go and besides, there was an open bar here. She would stay a little longer and who knows what would happen next if she did.
