There was a time where I knew that I was still acting like a boy and Ty was a woman deserving of a man showing up for her, not a boy. Now don’t get me wrong, this wasn’t about shaming myself or telling myself that I wasn’t good enough or man enough. What it was about though, was taking a good look at myself and taking ownership of who I am, how I’m showing up and how I am living my life. So with this in mind, for a while I was very focused on being and understanding what a "real" man looks and acts like. I got caught up in thinking I had to be that. To be honest with you this was really daunting because I hadn’t been a man in the world for very long and it felt like I had so much to do to catch up and be a “real” man. I spent some weeks working my way through this until one evening I was struck by the sudden realisation that Ty loved me for who I am, as a human and not because of my gender. I understood that all I needed and wanted to do from then on is focus on being the best me I can be. With great relief I remembered that I already knew how to do that! All I had to do to be the best me I can be was to stay in alignment with my core values of truth, heart and courage, the key ingredients to who I already was! It dawned on me that all the things and qualities I was aspiring to in a "real" man are all part of living my life by these values anyway! What I was actually aspiring to be the whole time was in alignment with who I already knew myself to be. So if I simply stayed in alignment with my values then I could not possibly “fail" to be the man I wanted to be. From then on I took the pressure off myself to be anything but me and simply focused on being the best me I could be, the human that Ty already loved.
