DC Goes Punk Rock In New Variant Covers This January
Earlier this year, DC put the idea of kindness being punk rock into the minds of the masses during James Gunn's Superman, and that ideal is entering the sphere of the comics as a new set of six punk rock-themed variant covers are on their way for the new year this January, spanning across various Superman/Supergirl titles. Check out the official press release below for all the details and a first look at the covers.
Kindness is the New Punk Rock
DC Comics Unleashes Punk Rock Variant Covers in January 2026 Featuring Superman, Supergirl, and more!
BURBANK, CA — October 29, 2025 — DC Comics is kicking off 2026 with a six-string scream. This January, DC will publish a set of punk rock-themed variant covers across six comic book titles that feature Superman, Supergirl, and more, each one a rebellious remix of the Man (and Woman) of Tomorrow, brought to life by some of comics' most fearless artists. From safety pins to zine-style slogans, these comic book covers channel the raw energy, DIY spirit, and anti-establishment ethos of punk rock, all while celebrating the enduring power of Superman, Supergirl, and their allies to stand up, speak out, and fight for what's right. Kindness is the new punk rock! DC's Punk Rock Variant Cover Lineup: - Action Comics #1094 – Annie Wu turns up the distortion with a punk-rock Superboy thrashing an electric guitar mid-solo, amps blazing and attitude dialed to eleven. - Superman #34 – Dave Johnson delivers a bold, black-and-white zine-style cover with the rallying cry "Kindness is the new punk rock" scrawled across Superman. - Superman Unlimited #9 – Mike Allred goes full anarcho-pop, plastering Superman over a giant anarchy symbol surrounded by safety pins, torn textures, and retro rebellion. - Supergirl #9 – Marguerite Sauvage paints Kara Zor-El as a punk heroine: fierce, stylish, and ready to break the mold. - Batman/Superman: World's Finest #47 – Fabrizio De Tommaso captures the duo looking like they just stepped out of a gig and into a showdown. - Justice League Unlimited #15 – Dan Hipp transforms Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman into punk rock icons in his signature vibrant style: patched jackets, wild hair, and all the attitude you can handle. These limited-edition "Punk Rock" variant covers will be available at comic shops starting January 2026. Fans should check with their local shops for preorder info as these covers are destined to be collector favorites. Whether you're a longtime punk, a die-hard DC fan, or just someone who believes in kindness with a side of chaos, this DC variant cover series is for you. For all seasons.
One of the most stunning comic books i have ever read. I read this a little bit after watching the new superman film that came out this year, which speaking of! being avid fan of superman, i have been waiting for a movie adaptation to capture what i loved about this character for what has felt like ages! for such a movie to release, i could not be any happier. I thoroughly adored it and launched myself back into full fixation on the man of steel and superhero comics in general. I am very surprised i hadn't read this before, this to me feels as if it's baby's first superman's story almost, and i would recommend it as such! All-Star is a masterpiece but there is so much of the mythos that a newer fan would be unaware of and i think that would help them feel lost. For all seasons being such a basic tale although isn't bad, it's simplicity is one of it's greatest strength's in my opinion and even so within it i think untold depth can be found. The narrative backdrop of each issue being narrated by someone important in Clark's life brought so much clarity to those character's thoughts and world views, fleshing out the world a lot and bringing upon the depth i feel is in this book despite it's simple story. I could stare at some of these spreads for a lifetime, this book to me is such a perfect, cozy and comfortable rendition of superman and his world and has definitely become my favourite Superman story, tied with All-Star! Basic choices but they are widely regarded to be great for a reason!. Soon i wish to read Birthright and finish the physical copy i own of Loeb's Superman/Batman run which i also am enjoying loads!.
